Early box office numbers for The Running Man are coming in, and they don’t look good. If Paramount was considering making a sequel, they might want to reconsider those plans.
What is The Running Man box office update?
According to Deadline, “The Running Man” made $1.9 million from preview showings on Thursday in about 3,000 theaters. Experts predict this will lead to a weekend opening of over $20 million. If people enjoy the movie and tell their friends, it could earn even more, but it’s too soon to know for sure.
Despite costing $110 million to make, The Running Man needs to perform well in theaters to earn back its money and potentially get a sequel. Paramount is hoping the film will stay popular with audiences, especially with the Thanksgiving holiday approaching in two weeks. While Wicked: For Good and Zootopia 2 are expected to be the biggest movies that week, The Running Man could offer a different kind of entertainment for moviegoers looking for something else.
The films The Running Man and Now You See Me: Now You Don’t are competing closely for the top spot at the box office this weekend. Now You See Me: Now You Don’t earned $2.1 million from preview showings on Thursday, suggesting it could open with over $20 million. It’s currently unclear which film will come out on top, but both are expected to outperform Predator: Badlands in its second weekend, with that film predicted to earn less than $20 million.
As a huge Stephen King fan, I recently revisited The Running Man. It’s based on his novel, and stars Glen Powell as Ben Richards. He’s a guy down on his luck who enters this crazy game show – basically, he’s hunted for a month. The prize is a billion dollars if you survive, but Ben soon realizes the people running the show aren’t exactly hoping he does survive. It’s a really tense and exciting thriller!
The Running Man is now in theaters.
