J.J. Abrams successfully revitalized the Star Trek franchise in 2009 with a new cast and a reimagined timeline. The resulting films were very successful, with Abrams directing the sequel in 2013 and the original cast returning for another installment in 2016. Since then, Star Trek has primarily continued through television series, with several new shows being released. Throughout this time, plans for a fourth movie have been consistently discussed and even included a proposal directed by Quentin Tarantino, though the project has gone through many changes.
Recently, Paramount has made the next Star Trek movie a high priority, especially with its new ownership by Skydance, who are looking to establish themselves in Hollywood. Shortly after the merger, Skydance confirmed Star Trek would return to the big screen soon, so the latest news isn’t much of a surprise. According to Deadline, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley – known for directing Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves – will be directing the new film.
This is a developing story; it will be updated.
