King Charles III Marks His 77th Birthday With New Portrait

King Charles III is in the royal spirit. 

King Charles celebrated his 77th birthday with Queen Camilla, 78, at Cyfarthfa Castle in South Wales on November 14th. Continuing a long-standing family custom, he marked the occasion with a new portrait.

Buckingham Palace shared a photo of King Charles celebrating his 77th birthday on Instagram, and thanked everyone for their kind messages.

Prince William and Kate Middleton, along with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, also celebrated the King’s birthday. They shared a new photo on their Instagram Stories with the message, “Happy Birthday to His Majesty The King!”

The royal family shared a video of the King’s birthday celebration. The video shows Charles and Camila being greeted by guests as they arrived at the castle. Among those attending were people from Charles’ charity, The King’s Trust, the Royal Osteoporosis Society, and fashion designer Julien Macdonald. Guests enthusiastically sang “Happy Birthday!” as they entered the room.

Oh my goodness, it was the most magical moment! Everyone was clapping, and then Charles – you know, Prince Harry’s dad! – actually cut into his birthday cake! It was specially designed with a connection to Cyfarthfa Castle, which is just… perfect. I nearly cried, honestly!

The celebrations continued when he and Camila visited Taffs Well, a village in South Wales, to see the progress on their first Metro Tram train station. While touring the site, the Metro staff surprised him with a “Happy Birthday” sign displayed on one of the tram-trains.

Prince Charles recently celebrated a special occasion soon after appearing at several events in the U.K. One notable event was the Countdown to COP30 gala at the Natural History Museum, which he attended with his son, William. The pair were photographed outside the museum, both wearing similar navy suits.

As someone who understands the importance of family, it really warms my heart to see Prince William stepping up for his father, King Charles. Beyond their official duties, William is prioritizing being there for Charles as he navigates his cancer treatment, which began earlier this year. It’s a beautiful example of how we should all support loved ones through challenging times.

In October, on the Apple TV+ show The Reluctant Traveler, he described 2024 as the most difficult year of his life. He added that life often presents challenges to help us grow and that overcoming those challenges shapes who we become.

Following Prince Andrew’s decision to stop using his Duke of York title, King Charles III announced that his brother would also lose his home at Royal Lodge and no longer be known as a Prince.

Buckingham Palace announced today that King Charles has begun the official process of stripping Prince Andrew of his royal titles and honors. He will now be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

Prince Andrew, the younger brother of King Charles III, has announced he will no longer use the title Duke of York. This decision comes because of ongoing public concern about his connection to the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender.

After talking with The King and my family, I’ve decided the ongoing accusations against me are taking attention away from the important work of His Majesty and the Royal Family,” Andrew said in a statement. “As I’ve always done, I’m prioritizing my family and country. Therefore, I stand by my decision to step back from public duties, which I made five years ago.”

Andrew stated that, with the King’s approval, he was taking things a step further. He would be giving up his royal title and any honors he’d received. He reaffirmed that he strongly denied all accusations made against him.

 

In October 2025, the King and his oldest son attended the Countdown to COP30 event held at the Natural History Museum in London.

The couple took photos outside the museum and then went inside to talk with government officials and activists dedicated to fighting climate change. This event took place before the COP30 World Leaders Summit in Belém, Brazil, in November, which Prince William will attend in place of his father.

In September 2025, Sarah, Duchess of York, stepped down as a patron of Julia’s House after an old email from 2011 surfaced. The email revealed she referred to Jeffrey Epstein as a friend.

After reports surfaced this weekend about the Duchess of York’s communication with Jeffrey Epstein, Julia’s House has decided it’s no longer appropriate for her to serve as a patron of the charity, according to The Guardian. The charity has informed the Duchess of this decision and expressed its gratitude for her previous contributions.

A representative for Ferguson stated that the email was sent following a threat made against her by Epstein.

After a 19-month absence, Prince Harry was spotted arriving at Clarence House—the King’s home in London—apparently to visit his father before attending another event in the city.

Harry arrived at the house around 5:20 p.m. on September 10th, but Charles had come back just a few hours earlier.

Princess Anne’s son and his girlfriend, Harriet Sperling, announced their engagement on August 1st. They had been dating for over a year. He shares a father, Mark Phillips, with his mother, Princess Anne.

The couple’s representative told Hello! magazine that both families were told together and were very happy to hear about the engagement.

Just a day before turning 78, the royal was made an honorary Vice Admiral by the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy.

Camilla is the first woman to receive this honorary title. It’s awarded only by the monarch – in this case, her husband, King Charles III – based on a recommendation from the First Sea Lord, currently Sir Gwyn Jenkins.

Just hours before she was scheduled to attend, Princess Catherine cancelled her appearance at Royal Ascot, according to Kensington Palace.

The palace stated that Kate was sad to miss the event, but she’s still working out how to manage her public appearances as she recovers from cancer.

Prince Harry’s legal battle for extra security ended on May 2nd when the courts rejected his case. This came more than a year after a previous request for increased protection was denied by the High Court’s Royal and VIP Executive Committee.

After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals in 2021 and moved to the US, their official security was reduced. However, Harry continued to request security arrangements whenever he returned to the UK.

Prince Harry told the BBC on May 2nd that he was deeply upset by the outcome of his recent legal fight. He stated that, as things currently stand, he doesn’t foresee returning to the UK with his wife and children.

Harry explained that his father has significant influence and could potentially solve the situation. He suggested this wouldn’t require direct involvement, but rather letting go and allowing the professionals to handle things and continue their work.

After years of fighting, he’s now seeking peace and a chance to make amends. He explained, “Life is too short, and I don’t know how much time my father has left.”

More than a year after revealing his cancer diagnosis, King Charles wrote on April 29th that going through treatment has highlighted the kindness and strength of people around him.

In a booklet offering support to cancer patients, Charles explained that receiving a diagnosis is understandably scary for both individuals and their families. However, drawing from his own experience, he emphasized that it can also reveal incredible kindness and strength in others.

He expressed his gratitude to the healthcare workers who cared for him, and shared that the experience deepened his respect for the incredible work done by the organizations and people present, many of whom he’s known and supported for a long time.

Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – were absent from the royal family’s traditional Easter service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on April 20th.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla joined the rest of the royal family in celebrations, but Prince William and Kate chose to spend the weekend with their children at their country home in Norfolk, according to several news sources.

This was the second Easter the couple missed. It happened just a week after Princess Catherine revealed she was undergoing cancer treatment.

On April 15th, Jason Knauf was appointed the new CEO of Prince William’s environmental initiative, The Earthshot Prize. In a statement on the organization’s website, Knauf expressed his excitement about collaborating with the team and community to further their goal of promoting hopeful solutions for the planet.

He received a promotion almost seven years after he reported concerns about Meghan Markle’s behavior, claiming she bullied two assistants and tried to discredit another staff member. Representatives for the Sussexes denied these claims, telling The Times that the story was a deliberately damaging attempt to spread false information.

Buckingham Palace looked into the claims, but the investigation concluded in 2022 with no public report of its findings.

William and Kate’s eldest son George attended a soccer match in Paris alongside his dad April 7.

I was absolutely devastated to hear about Graham Craker! He was such a strong presence, protecting Prince Harry and Prince William – can you believe it? He passed away in April at 77. It feels like losing a bit of royal history, honestly. He always seemed so dedicated, and it’s just so sad.

Craker was with Princes William and Harry when they found out their mother, Princess Diana, had passed away, and he was present at her funeral.

In 2017, Craker told The New York Post that he saw Prince William acknowledge him during the procession. Craker had been standing near the back of the hearse, and he and the Prince exchanged a nod. Craker said William seemed reassured knowing he was accompanying his mother on her final journey.

Hugh and Olivia Grosvenor, who is the godson of King Charles III, shared the happy news on March 12th that they are expecting their first child.

Prince Frederik, the son of Prince Robert and Princess Julie, passed away on March 1st at the age of 22 after a fight with a rare genetic condition called PolG mitochondrial disease.

Robert shared in a statement that Frederik is like a superhero to him, their family, and a large circle of friends. Thanks to Frederik’s PolG Foundation, his positive impact now reaches people around the world. Robert believes Frederik’s ability to inspire and lead by example was a key part of what made him so special.

 

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, reached a legal settlement with News Group Newspapers—the publisher of both The Sun and the now-closed News of the World—on January 22nd. He had sued the organization in 2019, claiming that journalists and investigators working for its newspapers illegally obtained information about the royal family.

According to NBC News, the settlement involved the company paying a significant amount in damages and offering a complete and sincere apology to Prince Harry. They also publicly acknowledged the widespread and intrusive media coverage concerning both his and his mother, Princess Diana’s, private lives.

On January 14th, The Princess of Wales shared the wonderful news that her cancer treatment has been successful and she is now in remission.

I nearly cried when I saw her post! She said she’s in remission, which is AMAZING, and she’s still working on getting better. But what really got to me was when she said it takes time to adjust to a ‘new normal’ after a cancer diagnosis. Anyone who’s followed her journey knows how true that is, and it just feels so real and honest. I’m just so happy for her and sending all my support!

She added that she’s optimistic about the year ahead and excited for what’s to come.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is grieving the loss of her rescue beagle, whom she adopted back in 2015, before she met Prince Harry.

On January 7th, she shared a vulnerable post on Instagram, describing feeling overwhelmed with tears. She explained how she’d often try to wash away her sadness in the shower, hoping to mask her emotions, but ultimately accepting that it’s okay to feel them anyway.

Meghan lovingly remembered her dog, Guy, saying, ‘Thank you for all the years of unwavering love. You brought so much joy to my life.’

 

Edward Pettifer, the stepson of Prince William and Prince Harry’s former nanny, Tiggy Legge-Bourke (also known as Alexandra Pettifer), was a victim of the terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day.

Prince William and Princess Catherine were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Ed Pettifer. In a message shared on Princess Catherine’s Instagram account on January 4th, Prince William stated their thoughts are with the Pettifer family and everyone affected by this terrible tragedy.

Meghan Markle, known for her role on the TV show Suits, started her own Instagram account on January 1st. She had previously closed her personal social media accounts right before marrying Prince Harry in 2018.

The next day, she revealed a new Netflix series called With Love, Meghan. A press release described it as a fresh take on lifestyle shows, combining helpful tips and honest chats with both familiar and new friends.

In June 2025, Prince William and Kate Middleton were spotted at Wimbledon with their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, for a special family outing.

The family shared on Instagram how happy they were to be back at Wimbledon for the championships this weekend. They congratulated Iga Świątek and Jannik Sinner on their victories and thanked everyone who helped make the tournament so wonderful.
