Where Winds Meet: Gift of Gab Walkthrough

Discover how the Gift of Gab skill functions in Where Winds Meet to succeed in debates, improve your skills, and advance through the game more easily.

In the side quest ‘Silver Tongue’ of Where Winds Meet, you’ll encounter ‘Gift of Gab,’ a unique challenge that replaces combat with a debate. It’s a mini-game where you use dialogue cards to damage your opponent’s health. The debate is governed by an inspiration system, which controls how often you can play cards. Successfully reducing your opponent’s health to zero wins you the match.

You’ll encounter the Gift of Gab skill frequently throughout the game – in optional activities, while exploring, and even as a main career option.

Overview of Gift of Gab Mechanics in Where Winds Meet

Gift of Gab is a card game focused on strategy and managing your resources. You begin with a limited amount of ‘inspiration,’ and each card you play uses some of it. Players take turns choosing cards and reacting to each other until one runs out of health. Some cards are powerful but expensive, while others are weaker but help you conserve your inspiration for longer.

Since you can’t suddenly regain focus during an argument, view every decision as contributing to the overall conflict, rather than just a momentary action.

How To Play Gift of Gab in Where Winds Meet

Okay, so at the beginning of each debate, I get a hand of dialogue cards. Then, every turn, I pick one to play. It’s not just random though – I have to think about how much it ‘costs’ to use, what effect it’ll have on the argument, and what’s already happened in the debate. Basically, I’m trying to find the card that fits the situation best!

  • A low-cost card might use only 1 or 2 inspiration points.
  • Heavy cards can cost 3 or 4 but chunk a bigger part of the opponent’s health.
  • Your inspiration bar might start around a fixed number (depending on talents), so every decision matters.

When you run out of energy, you’re limited to playing only your cheapest cards. If your opponent still has a lot of energy, you’ll quickly fall behind.

This is why pacing plays a big role.

Okay, so in Gift of Gab, you get better at debating by, well, actually winning debates! The more you win, the more ‘mastery’ you gain.
