A highly praised crime thriller is coming to later this month. The film, directed by the filmmaker behind acclaimed movies like Black Swan and The Whale, received excellent reviews when it was released in August and will soon be available on the streaming service.
Featuring Academy Award-nominee Gerard Butler, Caught Stealing is a crime thriller about a former baseball player unexpectedly pursued by dangerous gangsters in New York City. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Charlie Huston, who also wrote the screenplay for director Darren Aronofsky. The movie boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Regina King, Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio, Benito Martínez Ocasio (Bad Bunny), Griffin Dunne, and Carol Kane, alongside Butler.
According to What’s on Netflix, the movie Caught Stealing will be available to stream on Netflix in the US starting November 29, 2025. This is thanks to a continuing agreement between Sony Pictures and Netflix. You can read a summary of the movie below while you wait.

The crime thriller Caught Stealing has received high praise from critics and audiences alike. It currently holds an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 83% score on the Popcornmeter, indicating broad appeal. Reviewers highlighted its nostalgic style and the captivating performance of Austin Butler, calling him a rising star. Audiences described the film as a thrilling and intense experience, also praising the chemistry between Butler and Zoë Kravitz.
Okay, so I read a review on MovieWeb, and the writer, Julian Roman, had some issues with the plot – he pointed out a few big holes and thought some of the characters reacted strangely to the violence. But, he did really enjoy the crazy, twisty story and especially praised the director, Darren Aronofsky. It sounds like it’s a wild ride, even if it doesn’t always make perfect sense!
I think Aronofsky really nailed the atmosphere of that specific time and place, before the New York City skyline became the iconic one we all know today. He truly captured a moment in history.
Despite receiving great reviews and being well-liked by audiences, the movie Caught Stealing didn’t perform well in theaters, earning $32 million worldwide on a $40 million budget. Hopefully, like other films that initially failed, it will find a larger audience and success when it becomes available for streaming.
