The Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t been as strong lately, with some movies not performing as well as hoped. However, things are looking up. Next year will bring two new films – Spider-Man: Brand New Day in the summer and Avengers: Doomsday at Christmas – both of which have a lot of promise. 2027 will only see one film, Avengers: Secret Wars. After that, the future is uncertain, but there’s been a recent update on a new project that fans are excited about.
After Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel Studios has only officially announced two upcoming projects: a reboot of the X-Men with director Jake Schreier, and a third Black Panther movie. While some details about the next Black Panther film were already known, director Ryan Coogler recently shared a new update that has sparked some curiosity. This comes after the success of his latest film, Sinners.
Black Panther 3 Is Officially Ryan Coogler’s Next Movie (But When Will It Happen?)

Ryan Coogler recently addressed the status of Black Panther 3 at an event with Deadline. A third film was almost certain to happen within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even before any cast or crew publicly discussed it. Coogler shared that he’s currently developing it, but his comments suggest there’s more to the story than a simple confirmation.
Coogler told the publication that he usually wouldn’t comment on such things, but confirmed they are actively developing the next film. He simply stated, “Yeah, it’s the next movie.”
Marvel fans will be happy to hear Ryan Coogler has confirmed that Black Panther 3 is his next film. After the success of Sinners, he could have easily continued that story, but he’s chosen to return to Wakanda. However, it’s important to remember Coogler is also developing a significant television project, so his schedule remains flexible and that project could potentially come first.
Marvel fans are eager for Ryan Coogler to continue directing Black Panther films, but he’s also committed to rebooting The X-Files. Coogler has been working on The X-Files and has spoken about his personal connection to the show and his ideas for it. While there’s no release date for the revival, and it’s unclear how much day-to-day involvement he’ll have, it seems Black Panther 3 might have to wait until Coogler finishes work on The X-Files. Black Panther 3 was already expected in 2028 at the earliest, and with Coogler’s busy schedule and the changing landscape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Secret Wars, the film could be delayed even further.
