It’s been over three decades since the movie Tombstone became a classic, and now fans are getting a welcome return with Sam Elliott in a new show. Tombstone, released in 1993, feels like a rare find in today’s Hollywood, as classic Westerns aren’t made as often. While modern Westerns like Hell or High Water and Yellowstone have emerged, Tombstone remains a special film, offering both a nostalgic experience and a story that still resonates today.
Sam Elliott was part of the talented cast of Tombstone, and his performance in the film has become a classic in the Western genre. Billy Bob Thornton also had a small role in Tombstone, and recently starred in the successful Paramount+ series Landman. Elliott joined Landman for its second season, appearing in the premiere episode and reuniting with Thornton decades after they first worked together.
‘Landman’ Is the Third Reunion For Sam Elliott and Billy Bob Thornton

Though Landman shares similarities with the neo-Western style of Tombstone, it offers plenty for fans of the 1993 film. If you enjoyed the memorable lines from characters like Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp, Landman delivers equally quotable dialogue. With Sam Elliott now part of the cast, it will be interesting to see what TV producer Taylor Sheridan has planned for him, as they’ve worked together before.
Billy Bob Thornton and Sam Elliott have appeared in three projects together – Tombstone, 1883, and now Landman. Surprisingly, this is the first time they’ll have a substantial amount of screen time together. While Thornton added memorable moments to Tombstone and 1883, his roles in those films didn’t allow for much acting alongside Elliott.
Sam Elliott is well-known for his role in Tombstone, but he truly shines in 1883 as a tough cowboy with surprising depth, giving him a chance to showcase his acting skills. Billy Bob Thornton appeared in Tombstone as the outlaw Johnny Tyler, and later in 1883, he joined the main characters for an exciting gunfight. While he’s involved in action in both shows, Landman allows Thornton to portray a much more complex and developed character.
Billy Bob Thornton expressed his delight in working closely with Sam Elliott, telling Entertainment Weekly that he genuinely enjoys being around his friend on set. While they’ve been friends for years, this is the first time they’ve really had the chance to collaborate. From Tombstone to 1883 and now Landman, Thornton and Elliott consistently deliver fantastic performances in Westerns, making their latest project together especially exciting for fans.
