Cancelled Minecraft-Like Game Hytale Is Saved; Early Access Release Imminent

Good news for fans of creative sandbox games: Hytale, a promising game similar to Minecraft that was previously cancelled, is back on track and will soon be available in early access. While inspired by Minecraft, Hytale offers its own unique experience with a procedurally-generated fantasy world where you can explore and build freely. Unlike Minecraft, which emphasizes creativity and resource gathering with simpler combat, Hytale features deeper RPG elements, offering more complex combat and gameplay mechanics.

Development on this game began way back in 2015, and it quickly gained a dedicated and enthusiastic following. This strong community helped shape the game into something substantial. The original developer, Hypixel Studios, was then bought by Riot Games – the creators of League of Legends and Valorant – which was considered a major win. It promised more funding, better promotion, and increased support. However, things didn’t go as planned. Earlier this year, Riot unexpectedly cancelled the game, leaving fans devastated. Many thought that was the end of the story, but there’s been a surprising turn of events.

Hytale Is Saved and Fans Can Play It Soon

Simon Collins-Laflamme, the founder of Hypixel, has announced that his team has bought back full ownership of the game Hytale from Riot Games. Riot felt this was the best path forward for players. The team has also secured funding for the next ten years and brought back 30 developers who previously worked on the game. They are now getting ready to launch Hytale into early access, with details on the release date and price coming soon. This early access period will allow players to play the game and share feedback to help improve it.

I’m incredibly grateful to Riot for collaborating with me to make this a reality. Their priority, like mine, is getting the game into players’ hands eventually.

This game means a lot to me personally, and I’m thrilled to be able to bring it back.

Let’s be honest: Hytale isn’t a fully finished, top-tier game…

The team announced in a recent blog post that the game will remain in early access for several years, and they aren’t planning a quick release of the full version. They want to carefully refine the game, work closely with players to address any issues, and create the best possible experience. After many years in development, it’s exciting to finally see Hytale launching, and the team envisions it as a game built with the community. Currently, the game is available on PC, with plans to expand to other platforms at a later date.
