Despite some problems and cast/crew changes behind the scenes, the new series CIA, a spinoff of FBI, is now scheduled to premiere on CBS in mid-2026. While FBI will continue with an eighth season, updates about CIA haven’t been encouraging, leading to concerns about whether the show will succeed.
CBS has announced its schedule for new and returning shows starting in mid-February 2026. Despite some production challenges, the show CIA is still set to premiere mid-season. Fans of the FBI franchise can catch the series premiere of CIA on Monday, February 23rd at 10 p.m. Eastern Time.
Although FBI has been a consistent hit for CBS, its spin-off shows haven’t fared as well. FBI: Most Wanted, which debuted in 2020, initially received a lot of attention, much like the original series. Despite some production challenges, FBI: Most Wanted proved more stable than FBI: International, its sister show that premiered in 2021.
The show FBI: Most Wanted faced challenges with its cast, particularly after its lead actor, Julian McMahon, left after season three. His character, Jess LaCroix, was killed off, and Dylan McDermott joined the show as Remy Scott. Despite this, the series only lasted six seasons before being cancelled following a tough 2024-2025 season. FBI: International experienced similar problems with casting.
Both shows have seen a lot of cast and crew changes, and Criminal Intent Analysis (CIA) has especially had a difficult time getting settled. Recently, the showrunner, Warren Leight, left, following the departure of executive producer Eriq La Salle and cast member Michael Michele, who is currently being replaced.
Even though the show CIA is facing some behind-the-scenes challenges – including delays caused by missing cast and crew – CBS still plans to premiere it in February, which is encouraging. Because stars Tom Ellis and Nick Gehlfuss are still involved, production should be able to get back on track soon.
CBS has scheduled the series premiere relatively late in the mid-season, which lets them assure viewers it’s still happening while giving the production team time to get everything on track despite some recent challenges. Although there’s anticipation for the show, titled CIA, it seems ready to launch in 2026.
CIA is currently set to be released on CBS on Monday, February 23 at 10 p.m. ET.
