Netflix’s thriller miniseries, The Beast in Me, is set in a charming small town, and viewers are wondering where it was filmed. Following Netflix’s pattern of creating captivating limited series with strong acting, all eight episodes became available on November 13, 2025.
Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys give outstanding performances as Aggie Wiggs and Nile Jarvis in The Beast in Me. Aggie, a writer and mother struggling with grief, finds herself captivated by her new neighbor, Nile, a wealthy real estate developer who is a suspect in his first wife’s death.
Netflix has many lesser-known thriller movies, but The Beast in Me quickly gained popularity, and viewers are curious about its filming locations.
The Beast In Me Is Set In A Fictional Version Of Oyster Bay, New York
The novel The Beast in Me is set in the wealthy suburb of Oyster Bay, New York, which is a real town located in Nassau County on Long Island.
The neighborhood where Aggie and Nile live isn’t a real place; it was created specifically for the show. This was a smart move by the writers, because even if you don’t know much about Long Island, the setting feels believable and genuine. Importantly, the fictional location gives the story more freedom, as the writers aren’t limited by the details of a real town.
Oyster Bay is generally known as an affluent area with pricey homes and a high cost of living. In the novel The Beast in Me, Aggie’s house first appears beautiful, but it’s actually deteriorating because she can no longer afford to maintain it, as she hasn’t been writing for a while.
Aggie’s large house emphasizes how lonely she is since her wife left after their son passed away. However, her neighbor Nile lives in an even grander home. Nile is incredibly wealthy and a major figure in New York City real estate, making it surprising that he chooses to live outside the city.
He relocates to Oyster Bay with his wife, Nina (Brittany Snow), seeking peace and quiet in the suburbs after a public scandal becomes overwhelming. The setting of The Beast in Me is almost a character itself, contributing significantly to the story.
It makes sense that so many great thrillers are set in the suburbs—the close quarters between Aggie and Nile really heighten the tension of their dangerous game.
Where Netflix’s The Beast In Me Was Filmed
Filming for The Beast in Me took place in New Jersey between September 2024 and January 2025 (according to TimeOut). The majority of the scenes were shot in Red Bank, a borough in Monmouth County, chosen for its streets and upscale homes, which provided the perfect setting for the show’s neighborhood scenes.
Filming took place at several spots around Newark, such as Tamaques Park in Westfield, the Unique Design Menswear store, the National Newark Building on Broad Street, a building located at 33 Washington Street, and Branch Brook Park.
The scenes depicting public reaction to Nile’s new project were filmed in downtown Jersey City.
Filming also took place in several other New Jersey counties, including Passaic, Union, Hudson, Middlesex, Essex, and Bergen, according to NJ.com. Specific locations included Bibb’s Auto Recycling, Dreyer Farms, Hazel Wood Cemetery, and Silver Spoon XR Studio.
Claire Danes delivers a truly captivating performance in this Netflix thriller, convincingly portraying a woman questioning her neighbor’s guilt. But the show’s atmosphere is just as important – especially the stunning houses in Nile and Aggie’s neighborhood, which really make the series stand out.
