Epic Games Store Finally Allows Users to Buy Games as Gifts

If you buy a game as a gift on Epic, the person receiving it has two weeks to accept it. If they already own the game, you’ll automatically get a refund. They can also choose to decline the gift, which will also result in a refund for you. You can only send gifts to people who are already your friends on Epic.

Epic has confirmed you can now use your Epic Rewards points to help pay for gifts you buy on the Epic Games Store.

Epic Games Store now lets you gift games to your friends! According to an official announcement, you can easily buy and send games directly to people on your Epic friends list – perfect for birthdays, sharing games you love, or just a fun surprise.

You can gift most games, special editions, add-ons, and bundles purchased on the Epic Games Store. However, free-to-play games, pre-orders, subscriptions, and in-game items like currency can’t be gifted. Gifting is available whether you’re using the Epic Games Store Launcher or accessing it through a web browser.

The new gifting feature on the Epic Games Store has a couple of key limitations. Currently, you can only send gifts to friends who are in the same geographic region as you. If you try to gift someone in a different region, you’ll get an error message during the purchase process. Epic Games says they plan to add cross-region gifting in a future update. Also, you have to purchase gifts separately for each friend – you can’t buy multiple gifts in one transaction.

The Epic Games Store has been steadily improving, though it’s taken time to compete with Steam, the leading PC game store. Steam, which launched in 2003, offers much more than just game purchases. It includes social features like friend lists, communities, and a marketplace, as well as technical features like SteamInput, which ensures compatibility with modern controllers, and Steam Workshop, which supports game modifications.

Steam currently dominates PC gaming, but Epic Games is working to gain market share. The Epic Games Store appeals to developers because it takes a smaller percentage of each game sale. Epic also regularly offers popular games for free and invests in big-budget titles like Alan Wake 2, which is currently only available on the Epic Games Store for PC.
