NVIDIA joins Microsoft’s push on Claude — piling billions into Anthropic’s future

Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Antrhopic CEOs’ thoughts

In a video statement, the CEOs of Microsoft, Anthropic, and NVIDIA – Satya Nadella, Dario Amodei, and Jensen Huang, respectively – explained their new partnership and what they hope to achieve together.

NVIDIA and Anthropic are partnering closely for the first time to help Anthropic expand. They will work together on designing and building systems that make Anthropic’s AI models run faster, more efficiently, and at a lower cost. This includes tailoring future NVIDIA hardware specifically for Anthropic’s needs. Anthropic plans to initially use up to one gigawatt of computing power from NVIDIA’s Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems.

Microsoft and Anthropic are strengthening their collaboration, making Anthropic’s Claude models more widely available to businesses. Specifically, customers using Microsoft Foundry will now have access to Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1, and Claude Haiku 4.5. This means Claude is now the only leading AI model offered on all three major cloud platforms. Azure users will benefit from more model options and specialized features powered by Claude.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang shared excitment about the partnership in the joint video:

Huang expressed his excitement, saying, ‘This partnership has been a long-time goal for us. We’ve always been impressed by Anthropic and Dario’s work, and we’re thrilled to finally collaborate with them to help speed up the development of Claude.’

Microsoft and Anthropic

It makes more sense now that Microsoft and Anthropic are working together. They announced a partnership in September, bringing Anthropic’s Claude AI models into Microsoft 365. This was a big step for Microsoft, as it meant they weren’t relying solely on ChatGPT for their AI technology.

The deal’s announcement also revealed Microsoft would be paying Amazon Web Services for access to Claude, which was somewhat ironic given that Microsoft already has its own cloud platform, Azure.

Anthropic and Microsoft have partnered, with Anthropic agreeing to buy $30 billion worth of computing power from Microsoft’s Azure cloud service to run its Claude AI model.

Claude will keep running on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and now also on Microsoft’s Azure. This makes Claude the first major AI model you can access through all three of these cloud providers.

This agreement gives Microsoft Foundry customers access to Anthropic’s advanced Claude AI models.
