Daisy Ridley Cast In Action Thriller The Good Samaritan, Delaying Star Wars Return

Daisy Ridley is now part of the cast of a new action movie, which might push back her planned return to the Star Wars universe. She first became famous playing Rey in the most recent Star Wars trilogy. While it was announced four years ago that she would reprise the role of Rey in Star Wars: New Jedi Order, there hasn’t been much news about the project since.

According to Deadline, Ridley will star in a new action thriller titled The Good Samaritan. The film will be directed by Pierre Morel, who also directed Taken, and the script is written by Matthew Ian Cirulnick, known for his work on Rambo: Last Blood. Filming is set to begin in spring 2026 in Brisbane, Australia.

Mark and Dorothy Canton, along with Renee Tab and David Hopwood, produced the project. Cirulnick, Pierre Morel, Ryan Winterstern, Delphine Perrier, and Arianna Fraser served as executive producers, with Karley Ferlic as co-producer.

The movie follows Dr. Rosalind Carver, played by Ridley, a businesswoman who finds herself in trouble when she and her husband save a man from the sea. This act leads to her husband being kidnapped and Dr. Carver being hunted by pirates and thrown in prison. To rescue herself, she must then work with a secretive security expert.

Dr. Rosalind Carver, a successful businesswoman, and her husband, Matt, think they’re simply saving a man’s life when they find him injured at sea near Indonesia. But their rescue quickly turns dangerous – their yacht disappears, and Matt is kidnapped. Suddenly, their dream vacation becomes a nightmare. Pursued by pirates and held captive by dishonest authorities, Rosalind turns to Sean Fuller, a private security expert with a hidden past, for help. Together, they must unravel a web of lies and fight for survival in a country where trust is impossible to find.

I was really struck by what Morel said about the script for The Good Samaritan. He described Cirulnick’s writing as incredibly realistic, and he highlighted how the story really takes off when these two broken characters from completely different backgrounds collide – it sounds like a Hitchcock thriller! As for Ridley, he apparently embodies Dr. Carver perfectly, coming across as both intelligent and calm, even in stressful situations. The executive producer is thrilled with how the cast is coming together, though right now, Ridley is the only one officially signed on for the film.

Matt’s writing really shines because his characters feel so real, and the situations they’re in are incredibly intense. The story has a classic, suspenseful feel, like something Hitchcock might create, and it’s fascinating to see these two broken people from different backgrounds collide. I especially love Daisy – she’s smart, composed even when things get tough, and watching her deal with a hostile new environment will be captivating. Plus, the cast is shaping up nicely, and I think the whole project is going to be a lot of fun.

Canton praised the film The Good Samaritan as a clever and captivating story, and expressed his excitement about collaborating with Morel and Ridley.

Filmmakers are currently looking for a company to distribute the movie, and they recently showcased it at the American Film Market to attract international buyers.

Following the conclusion of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Daisy Ridley has appeared in a variety of films, including Chaos Walking, Sometimes I Think About Dying, The Inventor, The Marsh King’s Daughter, Magpie, Young Woman and the Sea, and Cleaner. She has several upcoming projects as well, such as We Bury the Dead and The Last Resort (both slated for 2026), plus Mind Fall, Me vs. Me, Killa Bee, Dedication, and Federico.

In 2023, Daisy Ridley was confirmed to return as Rey in a future Star Wars film titled New Jedi Order. However, progress on the movie has been slow over the past two years, and the start date for filming remains uncertain. While waiting for New Jedi Order to move forward, Ridley is currently working on other film projects.

Fans won’t have to wait long for more Star Wars! A movie featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu is coming in May 2026, and another starring Ryan Gosling, titled Star Wars: Starfighter, will be released in May 2027. These films will bridge the gap while we wait for the New Jedi Order movie.
