A popular theory about the upcoming season of Stranger Things might be incorrect, as the meaning behind the episode titles may have been figured out. The Duffer Brothers’ hit sci-fi series, Stranger Things, is ending with its fifth season, and fans are eagerly awaiting the conclusion. When the episode titles were revealed last year, they sparked a lot of speculation, but it looks like one major theory has now been disproven before the season even begins.
The title of Stranger Things season 5, episode 4 is “Sorcerer,” and fans have been speculating about who this refers to. Many thought it could be Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), as he’s expected to have a major role this season and his connection to Vecna and the Upside Down will finally be explained. However, a new Stranger Things quiz on Google suggests Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) might be the “Sorcerer” instead, hinting that she could be the key figure in that episode.

Why We Thought Will Byers Was Stranger Things Season 5’s Sorcerer

Though Will Byers hasn’t been central to the recent events in Stranger Things, he’s predicted to play a major role in the final season. The first few minutes of season 5 will rewind to 1983, showing us more about Will’s initial experience in the Upside Down – revealing that Vecna actually found and infected him, setting off the series’ biggest conflicts. It’s expected that Vecna will target Will again to fulfill his plans, making Will a key character in the upcoming season.
Recent information might have given fans the wrong idea about how important Will’s role would be in the new season. While many expected episode 4, “Sorcerer,” to focus on Will, it now appears the episode will actually center around Eleven. Considering her powers and connection to the Upside Down and Vecna, Eleven being the focus makes sense. However, it would have been a satisfying and logical twist to reveal Will as the sorcerer, bringing his story full circle.
For a long time, fans have known that Will Byers’s character in Dungeons & Dragons is Will the Wise, a cleric who uses divine magic. The show Stranger Things has hinted at this identity multiple times, including in the very first scene of season 5, which features a drawing of Will the Wise in Castle Byers. Season 5 will definitely focus more on Will, continuing to explore his link to Vecna and questions about who he is. It would be exciting to see Will develop his own magical powers as a sorcerer, too.
