TV show preferences have changed over time, but sitcoms have consistently stayed popular. Their cheerful, easy-to-watch nature offers a comforting escape, making them perfect for binge-watching. While sitcoms have changed over the years, the 1980s brought us some truly iconic shows like Cheers, The Golden Girls, and Family Ties. Recently, one of these beloved ‘80s sitcoms became available to stream for free, and many fans are hoping it will be revived.
After airing for seven seasons on ABC over thirty years ago, the popular sitcom Growing Pains is now available to stream for free on Tubi. All 166 episodes from all seven seasons became available on November 3rd. Growing Pains is a classic family sitcom starring the late Alan Thicke as Dr. Jason Seaver, a psychiatrist who brings his work home to Long Island, New York, to support his wife’s career as their children grow up.
Growing Pains Is an Iconic ‘80s Sitcom

Growing Pains was a consistently excellent show, ranking among the top eight most-watched programs in 1986. It resonated with audiences then and still does today because it realistically portrayed the life of a typical American family – the everyday challenges of being a teenager, family life, and even difficult issues like drug use, homelessness, and loss. Combining humor with heartfelt emotion, Growing Pains was a defining show for family television and played a role in launching the careers of stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.
With so many shows being revived or remade lately, it’s surprising we haven’t seen a new version of Growing Pains yet. Talk of a reboot started as early as 2019, with the cast reportedly working on ideas. More recently, in 2023, Warner Bros. was said to be considering a reimagining of the series, but those plans haven’t progressed, and the project appears to be stalled for now.
What’s New on Tubi?
Tubi added a bunch of new shows and movies in November, including the classic series Growing Pains. If you’re looking for something to watch, you can find shows like Dead Like Me, The Roots (and its 2016 revival), and the short-lived sci-fi series V. On the movie side, Tubi is streaming popular titles like No Country for Old Men, Face/Off, and Titanic.
