Myrka Cantu is navigating a scary chapter.
As a huge fan of hers, I was heartbroken to hear that the star of Unexpected recently shared something so personal. She explained that her and Juan Castillo’s little boy, 10-month-old Alejandro, suffered a brain injury while they were all sleeping together in their bed. It’s just awful, and I’m sending all my love and support to their family.
Myrka shared in an Instagram video from November 14th that her baby fell off the bed. She realized she should have been more careful about his crawling when letting him sleep in the same bed as her. She woke up during the night to find he’d fallen, and wasn’t sure if he was playing or sleep-crawling at the time.
I had to take him to the emergency room, and he was flown by helicopter to a children’s hospital. He fractured his skull and had bleeding in his brain. To be honest, I’ve been a mess – I haven’t stopped crying and haven’t gotten any sleep at all.
Myrka, who is expecting her fourth child—and her third with Juan—shared that Alejandro is recovering well.
She said he was recovering remarkably well. It wasn’t a physical injury that needed surgery, and surprisingly, he hadn’t even received pain medication – just fluids and regular monitoring of his vital signs.
On the screen, she typed, “He’s been completely himself – not at all picky or difficult.”
After the accident, Myrka has decided not to share a bed with her child, a practice also discouraged by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The reality star shared on Instagram that this was the first time her baby had slept with anyone, and she assured followers it would be the last. She explained that even with precautions, the baby could have fallen while they were sleeping together, and that he should have been sleeping in his own crib by himself.
“My baby is incredibly resilient,” she said. “He inspires me, and I believe we’ll appreciate this experience as a valuable lesson someday.”
Myrka, known from the show Unexpected where she appeared with her former boyfriend Ethan Ybarra, shared what she took away from their experience.
She explained in a video on November 18th that this has been a really steep learning experience. She described putting her baby in the playpen, saying she wasn’t going to take any chances.
As Alejandro continues to recover, keep reading for a look at more celebrity health scares.

Okay, so this is a little personal, but I’m sharing because it happens! During a match last July, I took an elbow from Piper Niven, and it actually caused one of my breast implants to shift. It was a bit of a shock, honestly, and something I had to get checked out. Just goes to show, even as a pro wrestler, you never know what to expect!
She reassured her sister, Bella Garcia, saying they would get the issue resolved eventually. She explained to the doctor that as soon as she finalized her divorce and retired from her current job, she would return to address the problem and ensure everything looked its best, anticipating future use and wanting to make sure it didn’t appear neglected.

Lupita Nyong’o, known for her role in 12 Years a Slave, received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her performance in the film.
She didn’t reveal her diagnosis until 2025, sharing on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with it for over ten years.
She explained that many girls are taught to accept period pain as a normal part of being a woman. This often leaves them dealing with a common issue in silence and without support.

In July 2025, the actress from Daisy Jones & The Six revealed she was hospitalized for a hernia. This happens when a gap develops in the abdominal or groin muscles, and in her case, it was caused by wearing very tight pants.
Someone messaged Suki on X (formerly Twitter) asking why she hadn’t tweeted in a while. Suki jokingly replied that she’d been hiding a serious injury – a hernia caused by wearing overly tight pants six months ago – and was afraid to mention it.

In April 2025, the former star of Beverly Hills, 90210 shared that he was recovering from surgery to repair a nearly ruptured appendix.
Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain, which led him to the emergency room. Doctors discovered he had a perforated appendix – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to doing so.
He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

A Racing Louisville soccer player collapsed on the field a few minutes into the team’s game against Seattle Reign on September 14th at Lumen Field in Seattle.
According to Reuters, the U.S. Women’s National Team player sat down on the field with a teammate supporting her, and then collapsed shortly after, prompting the referee to call for medical staff.
Savannah was given immediate medical attention on the field and taken to a nearby hospital for more tests, according to a statement from the National Women’s Soccer League posted on X. They reported that she is currently in stable condition and is alert.

Adam Devine revealed that injuries from being hit by a cement truck at age 11 still cause him problems now.
“It’s been a really tough time,” Devine shared on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025. “I’ve been experiencing spasms all over my body, and doctors recently told me I was in a life-threatening situation—I was told I could die within the last year.”
He explained that his pain is intermittent, saying, “My body has a few quirks and isn’t quite working perfectly.”

A former contestant on The Bachelor went to the hospital because of severe back pain. He said the pain was so bad he had to crawl on his hands and knees, and it got worse during a road trip with a friend.
He described a lingering tingling sensation in his knees and toes during a March 2025 episode of his podcast, Trading Secrets. He explained that just a few weeks prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he can’t even do a squat or stand on one leg without falling. He compared the feeling to having had a stroke.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Gina Kirschenheiter, from The Real Housewives of Orange County, revealed that her ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack in March 2025, but he is recovering well.

In March 2025, the actor from 30 Rock experienced a medical issue at a New York Knicks game and had to be taken out of Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.
The comedian later posted on social media to explain he’d actually gotten food poisoning and was starting to feel better.

I was so shocked to hear that Christina Applegate, who I’ve loved since Even Stevens, was shot in the face! Apparently, it happened while she was on a fun outing with her husband, Brendan Rooney, to celebrate his birthday – they were actually clay pigeon shooting when it happened. It’s just awful, and I’m sending all my best wishes for her recovery.
In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a weapon unsafely. Thankfully, @thebrendanrooney quickly helped her, evaluated her injuries, and drove her to the hospital. She was hit five times, and one bullet narrowly missed her right eye, coming within less than an inch.
Okay, so I’ve been dealing with a bit of a health thing lately. Turns out a tiny piece of something got stuck behind my eye, and my doctors feel it’s too dangerous to try and remove it with surgery right now. Thankfully, I’m still able to see perfectly, and they’re just keeping a close watch on things to make sure it stays that way.
As a huge fan, hearing her speak really touched me. She shared that she’s just so thankful to still be with us, and spoke about how much her daughters, husband, family, and friends mean to her. She said she literally saw her whole life pass before her eyes, and it really hit home – she urged everyone to hug the people they love whenever they can, because things can change so quickly. It was a powerful message, and honestly, it made me want to call my own loved ones right away.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, surprisingly, after it helped her discover a health issue. After doing interviews, people noticed her “puffy” face and commented on it online. Schumer initially dismissed the comments, but then doctors began chiming in, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome, a condition often linked to high cortisol levels or steroid use. This prompted Schumer to realize she’d received steroid injections following a breast reduction and C-section. She later learned she had a form of Cushing syndrome that would resolve on its own, and she’s relieved to be healthy. As she shared, getting this diagnosis and knowing she’d recover was fantastic news.

During a game in December 2024, an AHL player was accidentally cut in the face by another player’s skate and needed 25 stitches. After his son fully recovered, New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald told ESPN how grateful they were, saying, “We feel very lucky, and no parent should have to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly developed stroke-like symptoms, initially unable to speak or control the right side of her face. Although these symptoms eventually subsided, she went to the hospital for evaluation. Doctors discovered she’d had a small blood clot travel to her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). Further testing at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart, called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to reach her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey successfully underwent a procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also went through a difficult time. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour.
In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained that the virus affected the nerves in his ear and face, causing paralysis. He showed fans that he couldn’t blink, smile, or move his nostril on the affected side, and that eating had become increasingly difficult. Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away.
Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well and feeling much better. She described the situation as scary and unexpected, but expressed her relief that he was going to be okay.

Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had previously kept private. In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, he explained that he was suffering from a severe headache when he suddenly lost consciousness. He doesn’t remember the next 20 days.
Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, became concerned and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.
After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed deep gratitude for the prayers he received, saying, “I needed every prayer.”

I was absolutely shocked to hear that the reality star actually ‘died’ while running the first challenge on the NBC show! It was so scary to hear her talk about it – apparently, she collapsed mid-mile. It was a really intense moment, and I was so worried for her!
She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling as though she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, everything went dark, but she then saw light, leading her to realize she had died that day.
She explained that her organs were failing, and she hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis. She described rhabdomyolysis as the body’s way of signaling a complete shutdown.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the show, she experienced a severe headache while at the gym, followed by intense pain and vomiting. She quickly realized something was seriously wrong with her brain.
A hospital scan revealed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain – resulting from a ruptured aneurysm. She underwent immediate surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, leaving her unable to speak coherently.
Though the aphasia eventually passed and she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had doubled in size, requiring a second surgery. This procedure initially failed, causing a major bleed and putting her life at risk. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.
Fortunately, Emilia reports that she has now made a full recovery and is at 100%.

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, recently expressed her gratitude for her family’s support during a health crisis. In January 2024, Cori suffered a stroke and immediately reached out to her loved ones, sharing a picture and letting them know what happened. She told TopMob News that her family quickly came to her aid.
Cori ended up staying in the hospital longer than expected due to other health issues. In addition to recovering from the stroke, she was also dealing with lupus and kidney problems.
Thankfully, Cori is now recovering well. She shared that while she had to work on regaining some motor skills, she’s generally doing great.

I’ve been a long-time admirer of Shailene Woodley, and I was really moved by what she shared recently about her health struggles. She talked about how difficult her early twenties were – she was dealing with so many things at once. She actually lost some of her hearing and couldn’t even walk for more than five minutes without needing to rest for hours. Everything she ate caused her pain, and doctors were giving her different diagnoses, which just added to the confusion.
Because I know she’s always been drawn to holistic approaches, she took it upon herself to find answers, working with both traditional doctors and alternative healers. It wasn’t a quick fix; it took a full ten years of searching and healing. She explained that the physical discomfort led to a lot of anxiety around food, and she even struggled with body dysmorphia and figuring out who she was and how to feel comfortable in her own skin.
But I was so relieved to hear that she’s now doing much better. She said the issues eventually resolved themselves and that she’s very healthy and happy, and honestly, that just makes me so happy for her. It’s inspiring to see her openness about such a challenging journey.
