A major question surrounding the new James Bond film is how much Amazon MGM Studios will alter the iconic spy series. Fans are concerned about big changes when 007 returns in the next few years, with Dune director at the helm. Now, a previous James Bond director has offered straightforward advice to the filmmakers.
Some directors who’ve worked on major film series prefer not to offer guidance to those taking over, but Martin Campbell isn’t one of them. When asked by Gold Derby about the new James Bond film coming after Daniel Craig’s departure, Campbell readily shared his honest and straightforward opinion.
There’s no need to completely reinvent Bond. What we really need is a strong, classic Bond film. Movies like GoldenEye and Casino Royale still hold up today, so let’s not mess with what already works. There’s plenty of potential for exciting new Bond stories, especially given the current state of the world, but it’s important to avoid unnecessary changes.
What Will the Next James Bond Movie Look Like?

MGM
Daniel Craig finished his run as James Bond with the 2021 film No Time to Die. After playing the iconic spy in five movies, he decided to pursue other projects. The film earned $774.2 million worldwide and notably featured the first on-screen death of the character in the history of the James Bond franchise.
There’s been a lot of uncertainty about the future of the James Bond franchise. Initially, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson appeared set to lead the next film, but it surprised many when they sold the creative control to Amazon MGM Studios. Some fans feared this would ruin the series, anticipating a flood of spin-offs and prequels. However, there haven’t been any significant developments regarding the next Bond movie itself.
This year, Amy Pascal and David Heyman were announced as producers of the new film, and a few months later, Denis Villeneuve joined as director. Now, the focus is on casting James Bond, a decision that’s been carefully considered. Fans have suggested many actors for the role, including popular choices like Henry Cavill and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, as well as newer stars such as Austin Butler, Jacob Elordi, and even Tom Holland.
I truly believe Villeneuve could deliver an amazing James Bond film – he’s definitely got the talent. But getting it made is going to be tricky, with so much that needs to fall into place. Right now, finding the next Bond is the biggest challenge, and it’s just the first of many steps before we actually see a new movie. It’s going to be a while, probably a few years, before Bond is back on the big screen.
