With the holidays approaching, many people will be revisiting their favorite Christmas movies, like ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol,’ ‘Elf,’ ‘Love Actually,’ and many others.
The 2005 film The Family Stone is a popular choice for many movie fans. This comedy-drama features the late Diane Keaton and a talented cast including Craig T. Nelson, Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Jessica Parker, Luke Wilson, Claire Danes, Rachel McAdams, and Tyrone Giordano.
A sequel may be in the works, as writer and director Thomas Bezucha has announced he’s developing it as a tribute to Diane Keaton following her death in October.
The first movie pretty much led us to believe Sybil had passed away after her cancer spread, and it’s really poignant to learn that the director, Bezucha, was already feeling that loss – like he was haunted by it – even while making the film, before Diane Keaton herself sadly passed away. It adds a whole other layer to the story, knowing he was grappling with that potential loss throughout the process.

He shared with CNN that losing Sybil had deeply affected him for months while he was working on the project, and the recent news felt like a painful reminder of his grief. He explained that he’d already been emotionally revisiting the place where he missed her, making this news particularly difficult.
Bezucha feels a strong responsibility to deliver a great performance for his fellow actors and wants to especially honor Keaton’s memory following her passing.
Bezucha explained that he’s only willing to proceed with the project if the original actors want to participate. He mentioned that when he initially contacted them, everyone expressed enthusiasm, although no official agreements are in place and the movie hasn’t been officially approved yet.
In the movie The Family Stone, Everett, the oldest son, introduces his girlfriend, Meredith, to his family at Christmas with plans to ask her to marry him.
When the family reacted negatively, she asked her sister Julie to come and be with her.
