As a huge fan, I was so excited when Daredevil: Born Again finally connected the MCU to the old Netflix shows! Seeing Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin back on screen felt amazing, and it was great to see Foggy, Karen, and even Bullseye return, picking up where Daredevil Season 3 left off. Honestly, one of the biggest highlights was Jon Bernthal coming back as The Punisher – he was so important in the first season’s fight against Kingpin’s task force. The way things ended for Frank Castle definitely made it seem like he’d be a big player in what’s coming next. But unfortunately, it looks like we won’t be seeing The Punisher’s story continue in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, which is a bit of a disappointment.
Sana Amanat, an executive producer, recently told Empire Magazine that Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher, won’t appear in the show’s second season. The last time viewers saw him, he had just barely escaped from Wilson Fisk’s prison. With Matt Murdock starting to gather allies to fight against Fisk, many fans expected The Punisher to join Daredevil’s fight to save New York City.
With Frank Castle taking a break, the series is welcoming back Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. Producer Amanat explained that Jessica’s return is driven by a deeply personal story, as she’s not typically one to join forces with others. Amanat also highlighted how Jessica’s character adds a unique balance to the often-dark series, bringing both a sharp edge and a sense of fun that contrasts with the more dramatic tone of shows like Daredevil, and cuts through pretense effectively.
The Punisher Has Big Roles to Play in MCU Beyond Daredevil: Born Again

Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, won’t appear in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again most likely due to scheduling conflicts. Jon Bernthal is preparing for a major year within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he’s starring in a dedicated Marvel Studios special presentation about his character, planned for release on Disney+ in 2026. The project, co-written by Bernthal and director Reinaldo Marcus Green, is described by Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum as a very intense and moving story. Although details are limited, the special is expected to focus on Castle battling the Gnucci crime family, a plotline well-known to comic book readers.
Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher, is heading to the big screen! Jon Bernthal will once again play the character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland. Since the film will focus on street-level action, it’s a perfect fit for The Punisher. This will be the first time Bernthal’s version of the character appears in a major film, and it continues the pattern of Spider-Man working with other heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Destin Daniel Cretton is directing, and the movie is set to release in theaters on July 31, 2026.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in March 2026.
