The Walking Dead icon Norman Reedus says emotional goodbye to Daryl Dixon role after 15 years

It’s hard to believe, but after 15 incredible years, Norman Reedus is finishing his run as Daryl on The Walking Dead. Honestly, it feels like saying goodbye to a character who’s become a real icon, and it’s a bittersweet moment for me as a huge fan. It’s the end of an era, and I’m going to miss seeing him with that crossbow!

The actor, well-loved by fans from the original sci-fi series, announced on social media that he had finished filming his last scenes for the spin-off show, Daryl Dixon.

Today was my last day filming as Daryl Dixon, and honestly, it’s a little emotional. Playing this character for so long, alongside all of you amazing fans, has been such a gift. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful for the whole experience. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for everything.

Daryl first showed up in the third episode of The Walking Dead and quickly became a fan favorite. He evolved from someone who only looked out for himself into a vital part of the main group, essentially becoming one of the show’s defining characters.

After the original Walking Dead series concluded in 2022, the story continued with several new shows. Daryl’s spin-off began with him stranded in France for two seasons, after which he traveled to Spain, trying to find his way back home.

In Season 2, fans were thrilled to see Daryl and Carol – two of the show’s most popular characters – team up again. Their partnership is a fan favorite.

It was announced earlier this year that Daryl Dixon would end with season 4.

Norman Reedus said he’s incredibly grateful for the journey of playing Daryl Dixon. He thanked all the fans who have supported the show and expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to develop the character and story, and for how well it’s been received.

Thank you for all your love and support – it’s meant the world to me. This isn’t goodbye, but a chance to celebrate everything we’ve experienced together. And remember, Daryl’s story continues, so keep the spirit alive!
