Paramount+ is experiencing a surprising boost in viewership thanks to its new series, Landman. Not only did the premiere draw a large audience, but people are also revisiting the previous season. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the mind behind Yellowstone, Landman is set in Texas and stars Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a landman working for a major oil company. After significant changes in the oil industry and within the company itself, Tommy quickly rises through the ranks. The show follows Tommy as he navigates the challenges of the oil business – including fluctuating prices and competition from dangerous cartels – while also dealing with a complicated personal life. This includes an unpredictable ex-wife (Ali Larter), a beautiful daughter (Michelle Randolph), and a longtime friend-turned-boss (Jon Hamm) who may be hiding secrets.
When Landman first came out a year ago, it didn’t generate as much excitement as some of Sheridan’s other shows. To be honest, it launched at a tough time – Yellowstone‘s final episodes were the biggest thing on TV, and that overshadowed Landman‘s debut as a streaming series on Paramount+. Now, a year later, with Yellowstone finished, Landman is perfectly positioned to take its place as the go-to show about big business in Texas, much like Yellowstone was for ranching in Montana.
Yellowstone‘s Successor is Breaking Records for Paramount+

As a big fan of Taylor Sheridan’s work, I’ve been following the numbers for Landman, and wow, Paramount+ is really making a splash with it! They just announced that the second season racked up 9.2 million views worldwide in its first couple of days – a huge jump of 262% from the first season’s premiere. Apparently, it’s the most-watched premiere ever for an original series on the platform. It’s great to see a show like this connecting with so many people!
As a film and TV fan, I’ve been following the numbers for Landman, and they’re fascinating. Viewership for Season 1 jumped a massive 320% after the new season dropped! It really suggests that a lot of people only discovered Landman once they’d finished watching Yellowstone. And it’s not just audience numbers either – Season 2 is getting great reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, even though fans themselves seem a bit less enthusiastic about it compared to the first season.
I’m really excited about the cast of Landman! Along with Billy Bob Thornton, you’ve got Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, and the always-great Sam Elliott. There’s a lot of promising new talent too, like Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, and Kayla Wallace. Plus, veterans like Mark Collie and James Jordan are in there, and Colm Feore adds even more to the mix. It’s cool to see that Taylor Sheridan, Billy Bob Thornton, and a whole bunch of other people are also executive producers on this project – they’re clearly invested in making it great.
Landman Season 2 is streaming on Paramount+.
