It’s Been 8 Months, But I’m Still Not Over This Yellowjackets Moment

The show Yellowjackets is known for its shocking scenes, and one from earlier this season continues to haunt me. Season three brought a lot of intense moments – we saw the adult version of Shauna become increasingly troubled, her younger self even more so, and discovered that Melissa had actually survived. But I want to focus on episode 6, titled “Thanksgiving (Canada).”

Coach Ben is currently being held captive by the girls after they found him again in the wilderness. They’ve severed his last Achilles tendon to stop him from running away, and he’s refusing to eat, wishing for death. So far, a vision of him being essential to their rescue has kept him alive, but what happens next reveals just how much the girls have changed and lost their humanity.

Coach Ben’s Death In Yellowjackets Was Worse Than Expected

Everyone expected Coach Ben to be dead, considering he hadn’t appeared recently. However, the show kept surprising viewers with characters surviving against the odds, so some still hoped he might turn up. Sadly, the episode “Thanksgiving (Canada)” confirmed his death in a shockingly violent scene, comparable to the infamous death of Glenn in The Walking Dead.

By this point, Ben was utterly exhausted and failing rapidly. He could barely move, was starving, and hadn’t been able to relieve himself properly for days. Akilah’s insistence on keeping him alive pushed the others to do everything they could, but his condition had worsened so much that keeping him alive felt crueler than letting him pass away.

Natalie, always closer to Ben, makes the difficult decision to end his suffering with a compassionate act, though what’s ‘right’ is debatable at this point. The scene is deeply upsetting and sad, but the situation quickly becomes even more chaotic and unbelievable.

The Feast Made Coach Ben’s Fate Extra Disturbing In Yellowjackets

As punishment for Nat’s disrespectful actions, Shauna makes her prepare Ben’s body for a celebratory feast. While Shauna claims this is a way to respectfully honor the dead, in line with what she believes “the wilderness” desires, it’s obvious she’s simply enjoying her newfound power and control as she pretends to be a queen of the wild.

The story reaches a terrifying peak during the feast. Everything is ready, including Ben’s severed head, which is prominently displayed. Sensing something is wrong, Lottie desperately asks for guidance from the wilderness. She and the wilderness begin screaming, and soon all the girls join in, creating a completely wild and savage scene.

As a movie fan, I live for those moments right before the credits – when suddenly, out of nowhere, new characters pop up. It’s a classic cliffhanger, and immediately you’re flooded with questions: Who are these people? How long have they been involved? But beyond just leaving you wanting more, that surprise appearance felt like it was setting something bigger in motion.

For years, we’ve watched as the show Yellowjackets depicted the girls spiraling into shocking acts of cannibalism and cult-like behavior. Seeing outsiders react with horror to their most extreme moment really emphasizes just how far they’ve fallen and how unbelievable things have become.

The girls are trying to make sense of their actions by clinging to rituals, imagining they’re surrounded by the wild, and simply acting on instinct as stranded survivors. But the reality is horrifying: they’re essentially performing a cannibalistic act, screaming while they eat their soccer coach. This scene from Yellowjackets is as deeply unsettling as it seems.
