After Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 swept the Golden Joysticks 2025, winning all seven of its nominations, the game’s creators have stated they will continue to develop games in the same way they always have.
Even though it’s the debut game from French studio Sandfall Interactive, Expedition 33 has quickly earned a dedicated fanbase who praise its story, gameplay, performances, and overall quality.
After Guillaume Broche, CEO and creative director of Sandfall Interactive, accepted an award, we asked him if the recent recognition and praise had added any pressure to his development team.
At first, we definitely felt a lot of pressure when the game launched – like we had a real obligation to deliver. But looking back now, it feels like we simply created the game we set out to make, and that’s what matters.

We were completely focused on this project, and honestly, we believe this is the best approach for us when making games. We feel fortunate it paid off, as success isn’t guaranteed.
As a fan, it’s awesome to hear they get to make the games they want to play! It sounds like they really focus on staying true to themselves and making things that feel genuine, which is a huge relief – you can tell when a studio is just chasing trends instead of making something they believe in. It’s great they’re in a position where they can prioritize that!
We’re planning to continue focusing on what we’re doing and not get distracted by outside opinions or criticism. It’s easy to lose sight of your goals after something goes well, so we want to stay on track.
Broche handed the microphone over to art director Nicholas Maxson-Francome, asking, “Nicholas, would you like to add something else?”
“No, yeah. What Guillaume said,” Maxson-Francome replied.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 swept the Golden Joystick Awards, winning all seven categories it was up for. These included the prestigious Ultimate Game of the Year, as well as awards for Best Lead Performer, Best Supporting Performer, and Best Storytelling. The game’s developer, Sandfall Interactive, also received a Studio of the Year award.
