Marvel and DC Just Made the Coolest Combo Hero (& Took Down An Incredibly Powerful MCU Villain)

As a huge film and comic book fan, I was so excited for the Marvel/DC: Deadpool/Batman crossover! The idea of seeing Deadpool and Batman team up was amazing, and after months of anticipation, it finally happened. Honestly, it lived up to the hype – it was a wild ride! The comic really delivered on the promise of a chaotic, funny, and surprisingly violent team-up between these two iconic heroes. It was everything I hoped for and more!

Several months after the first part of the Marvel and DC Comics team-up, DC/Marvel: Batman/Deadpool is here. And while the initial crossover was wild, this new installment takes things to an even more extreme level. Grant Morrison and Dan Mora throw Batman and Deadpool into a fantastical world and challenge them with a villain who could destroy both their universes. Luckily, the story results in the creation of a brand-new hero who combines Batman’s determination with Deadpool’s unpredictable and aggressive nature.

Meet Deadbat, Batman and Deadpool’s New Amalgamation

Let me tell you, the first issue of DC/Marvel: Batman/Deadpool is absolutely wild! This story, “The Cosmic Kiss Caper,” throws Batman into a seriously bizarre situation. He’s chasing after this thing called the Quantum Keyboard, which can literally change reality, but he’s not the only one. The villain Cassandra Nova is after it too, and she manages to trap Batman with Deadpool in a crazy mental world. Apparently, Deadpool was hired by the TVA to take Nova down, no matter what it takes!

Batman and Deadpool team up to escape the bizarre place they’re trapped in. While Batman figures out it’s a mental illusion, they’re suddenly attacked by a horde of cartoon ninjas. To test if the environment is real, Batman lets himself be shot with dozens of arrows, but he’s unharmed. Luckily, Damian Wayne intervenes, breaking the mental hold and allowing them to locate the Quantum Keyboard, which is controlled by the Writer – a representation of Grant Morrison from his comic book Animal Man.

Okay, so this is wild. Cassandra Nova goes after the person actually writing the story, trying to force them to write a really awful ending for Batman and Deadpool. But the writer points out that even she is just a character in their story, and honestly, they’re out of ideas! So, they do something totally unexpected: they mash Batman and Deadpool together into this crazy character called Deadbat. It’s a ridiculous combo, and Deadbat just shows up for one comic panel, but it’s enough! Deadbat completely takes down Cassandra Nova – like, decapitates her! – and then Deadpool just casually picks up her head and heads off to the TVA. It was such a bizarre, out-of-nowhere ending, but it worked!

Deadbat is the Wild Kind of Creation That Makes Comics Fun

Everyone seems to enjoy the concept of combining heroes. It’s simply fun to see creators merge characters into something fresh and interesting. In fact, both Marvel and DC once built an entire comic line – Amalgam Comics – around this idea, and fans still remember it as a particularly creative period for both companies. While a combination like Deadpool and Batman might not logically make sense, it’s definitely a memorable part of that crossover event.

What I really love about Deadbat is how Morrison doesn’t take the whole fusion thing too seriously – they even joke that it’s what happens when they’re out of ideas! Okay, merging heroes isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but it’s perfect for a story where Marvel and DC are finally collaborating. And honestly, any reason to get Dan Mora involved is a win – his design for Deadbat, even in that quick appearance, was absolutely fantastic.

Like many of Amalgam Comics’ characters, Deadbat probably won’t be around for long. However, he’s a fantastic surprise for the story’s climax. It’s a clever and unexpected addition that perfectly fits the wild and imaginative narrative Morrison and Mora created. I don’t anticipate seeing Deadbat again, but I’m glad we got this one memorable appearance. Perhaps Marvel and DC might even decide to explore this combination further and bring the Bat with a Mouth back in the future.
