Peacock is bringing the action and nostalgia this November! The streaming service has added a lot of new content throughout the month, including classics like the original Jurassic Park trilogy and the heartwarming film Paddington. Action fans will also be happy with the addition of a full action franchise, plus a movie often credited with ending it.
All four Expendables movies, including the recently released Expend4bles, are now available to stream on Peacock as of November 20th. The series, created by David Callaham, follows a team of skilled mercenaries who complete risky missions across the globe. Inspired by classic action films from the 80s and 90s, the first three movies starred Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross, alongside action icons like Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The fourth film shifts the focus to Jason Statham.
The Expend4bles Was a Franchise-Killer
The Expendables movies deliver everything action fans crave: a retro feel, a cast of famous stars, lots of explosions, catchy lines, and simple, enjoyable fun. While some films are better than others – The Expendables 2, with a 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a fantastic villain performance by Jean-Claude Van Damme, is a highlight – the series offers pure, over-the-top entertainment. It’s also been a huge financial success, earning around $855.2 million worldwide. However, one installment didn’t quite live up to expectations.
The Expend4bles didn’t succeed with critics or audiences, and it likely marks the end of the film series. It performed poorly at the box office, earning only $51 million globally despite a $100 million production cost, and received very negative reviews – a mere 14% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film strayed from what made the original movies popular, moving away from beloved action stars and towards a new cast. Combined with a disappointing story, weak dialogue, and uninspired action sequences, the movie was a significant failure.
Most fans agree that The Expend4bles effectively ended the film series, and there are no current plans for any new movies. However, Lionsgate recently acquired the rights to distribute future films based on the franchise, though it’s unclear if this will lead to a fifth installment.
What’s New on Peacock?
Peacock recently added a bunch of new movies to its streaming library, including titles like Despicable Me, Dunkirk, The Intern, and Kick-Ass. Along with the action-packed Expendables, subscribers can also enjoy several Fast & Furious films and all three original Jurassic Park movies.
