As a huge Marvel fan, I think the MCU really hit its stride again after Avengers: Endgame – it’s been an amazing six years! We’ve gotten some incredible stuff, but also a few bumps in the road. Spider-Man: No Way Home and the upcoming Thunderbolts were fantastic, and I absolutely loved the Loki and Moon Knight shows on Disney+. Unfortunately, Thor: Love and Thunder and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania didn’t quite live up to the hype, and Secret Invasion just didn’t work for me. But honestly, even with those missteps, one thing has really stood out as a major achievement for Marvel during this time.
Released on Disney+ not long after Endgame, WandaVision is widely considered the strongest story Marvel has produced in the last five years. The series explores Wanda Maximoff’s (Elizabeth Olsen) intense grief following Vision’s (Paul Bettany) death. To cope, she creates a fabricated reality in the town of Westview, bringing Vision back to life and giving herself the family she desires. The show’s popularity spawned follow-up projects like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Agatha All Along, and VisionQuest, all of which expand on WandaVision’s storyline. However, despite the compelling narrative threads introduced in WandaVision, the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t fully capitalized on what made the show so special. While Wanda’s transformation into the Scarlet Witch is a particularly interesting development in her character, it hasn’t yet had a significant impact on the broader MCU.
WandaVision‘s Sequels Are Great, but There’s One Problem

The success of WandaVision, with its surprising plot twists, well-developed characters, and thoughtful exploration of grief and trauma, led Marvel to continue its story in future projects. We see this in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Scarlet Witch, corrupted by the Darkhold, battles Stephen Strange. Then, the story continues with Agatha All Along, a new Disney+ series focusing on the villain Agatha Harkness and the legendary Witches’ Road. And next year, VisionQuest will arrive on Disney+ to show what happens to Vision after the events of WandaVision.
While each of the shows connected to WandaVision has its strengths, a frustrating problem is becoming clear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: none of them clearly explain what will happen with Scarlet Witch. The ending of Multiverse of Madness showed Wanda seemingly sacrificing herself to destroy the Darkhold, but left her ultimate fate unknown. Agatha All Along hints that she might still be alive, especially with the introduction of her son, Wiccan, but doesn’t confirm anything. It’s also unclear if the upcoming VisionQuest series will address Wanda’s story, leaving her future uncertain.
One major issue is that Marvel hasn’t laid out a clear path for Wanda Maximoff’s future. Also, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness came too quickly after WandaVision, and it wasn’t the right story to develop Scarlet Witch as a villain. This rapid shift in Wanda’s personality between the two projects confused many viewers, even though Elizabeth Olsen delivered a fantastic performance. As things stand, Scarlet Witch seems to have been poorly served by Marvel, with no clear direction for her in the MCU.
The MCU Needs to Bring Back the Scarlet Witch Soon

Marvel should focus on bringing Scarlet Witch back as soon as possible. Wanda has become increasingly popular with fans ever since she was first introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), and her popularity reached its highest point with the WandaVision series. As a complex character with incredible powers, she deserves to be a central figure in the MCU, but the franchise has unfortunately left her story unresolved for too long. After appearing in six live-action projects, Wanda’s compelling journey deserves to continue if Marvel wants to maintain the excitement around her character.
Given her comic book relationship with Doctor Doom, many fans hope to see Scarlet Witch play a major part in upcoming Avengers films like Doomsday and Secret Wars. However, there’s currently no news about when Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff. While Olsen has repeatedly said she’s eager to return, Marvel needs to create a suitable story for her. It’s a missed opportunity, as Scarlet Witch should be a central figure in the Multiverse Saga. Three years after her last appearance in WandaVision, Marvel isn’t fully utilizing the character’s potential, and this is becoming a bigger problem with each passing year.
You can now watch WandaVision, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and the popular series Agatha All Along on Disney+. Plus, a new series called VisionQuest is scheduled to debut on the platform in 2026.
