Expedition 33’s Charlie Cox Credits Lesser-Known Actor for Game Awards Nomination

The Game Awards 2025 is already making history, with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 receiving more nominations than any other game in the show’s history.

Charlie Cox is nominated for an award for his voice work as Gustave, a popular and important character in the role-playing game.

During a panel discussion, Cox expressed gratitude for the praise but immediately credited someone else with the success.

He’s excited about his nomination for Best Performance at the Game Awards, but wants to make it clear that bringing Gustave to life was a team effort, and his voice acting was just one piece of the puzzle.

According to actor Troy Baker, the performance of the character was largely due to Maxence Cazorla, a talented French actor who did the majority of the motion capture work. Baker feels any praise or recognition he receives should go to Cazorla, as he considers his own vocal contribution to be just one piece of the overall performance.

Maxence Cazorla didn’t just provide the motion capture for Gustave; he also brought Verso and Renoir to life through motion capture, and even voiced the character Esquie.

Here’s a clip of Cazorla’s motion capture work:

As a gamer, I really appreciate that Cox acknowledged all the effort put into making Gustave feel real – not just his voice acting, but how he moved and looked too. It’s true, he wouldn’t be the fan favorite he is if all those pieces didn’t come together so well!

The Game Awards are happening in a few weeks, and many people expect Expedition 33 to win multiple awards.
