The creator of the TV show Dexter, including its follow-up series, has talked about the potential for a Dexter video game. Despite being nearly 20 years old, Dexter remains incredibly popular, especially after finding a new audience through streaming. Social media has played a big role in this resurgence, introducing the show to a new generation of fans. This newer audience isn’t just interested in the TV show, however; they’ve also been exploring the original novels, comic books, and even the animated Dexter shorts.
What fans really want now is a new Dexter video game. There was an earlier game released for mobile and PC in 2009, and plans for versions on Xbox 360 and PS3 were considered but never made. A sequel also came out, but it suffered from development problems and a limited budget. While these games are hard to find today, they represent the only effort to adapt the character into a video game format.
A Dexter Video Game Doesn’t Seem Very Likely Right Now

Fans are eager for a new Dexter game, possibly an interactive story-driven experience similar to games made by Telltale or Dispatch, where player choices impact the narrative. There’s also been discussion about adapting the cancelled prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, into a video game, particularly since actor Patrick Gibson is now involved in gaming as James Bond. The hosts of Dark Passengers: A Dexter Podcast recently spoke with showrunner Clyde Phillips to gauge his interest in this idea.
Phillips admitted he wasn’t sure if he’d even be interested in working on a potential project, appearing largely uninterested. Robert Lewis, a longtime producer on Dexter, reportedly shared the same sentiment with podcast hosts. When asked about rumors of a Dexter video game, Phillips stated he had no knowledge of it, if one is even in development.
“This is the first I’m hearing of it… that’s how much I have to do with it.”
For over a year, Phillips collaborated with Paramount on plans for a whole range of Dexter spin-off shows, but most of those projects have been cancelled. The exception is Dexter: Resurrection, which is currently preparing for its second season. Given his deep involvement with the franchise, it seems likely he would know if a Dexter video game was in development, particularly if it involved actors Michael C. Hall or Patrick Gibson. He’s so closely connected to Dexter that he’d probably be aware of any new projects, even if he wasn’t directly working on them.
Phillips might be keeping things close to the vest, but he’s usually very open and honest, simply stating he can’t reveal confidential information. He publicly voiced his disappointment with Paramount after Dexter: Original Sin was cancelled, explaining that the decision wasn’t handled smoothly.
