Surprise WWE Superstar Is Teaming Up With Dragon Ball and One Piece Studio for New Movie

A WWE wrestler has unexpectedly announced they’re collaborating with Toei Animation, the studio famous for anime like Dragon Ball and One Piece. Anime’s popularity has surged recently, with films like Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle becoming huge box office hits. As these successful anime studios gain international attention, they’re expanding their partnerships to include creators from all over the world, and it looks like one exciting new project is already in the works.

AJ Mendez, known as AJ Lee in WWE, is collaborating with actress Aimee Garcia (from shows like Dexter and Lucifer) through their production company, Scrappy Heart Productions. In a recent interview with Stephanie McMahon on WWE’s “What’s Your Story?” podcast, Mendez shared that they are currently writing a movie in partnership with Toei Animation.

AJ Lee is Working on New Movie With Toei Animation

Mendez excitedly announced that she and her team had completed work on their second feature film. She shared this news for the first time, calling it a breaking story. She then talked about her lifelong love of anime, specifically Toei Animation, the company behind popular series like Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, which were a big part of her childhood. She confirmed they are now writing a movie for Toei Animation, calling it a dream come true to work with the studio and see all the Dragon Ball Z memorabilia.

It’s unknown at this point if the upcoming film will be animated, as Toei Animation has produced non-anime films before. However, if an anime studio does develop it, it would be a significant advancement for anime and could greatly expand the reach of the original work. It would also be remarkable if Toei Animation were to collaborate with creators on a global scale.

Anime Has a Bright Future

I’m so excited to see anime explode in popularity! It’s amazing how many creators are now getting involved – like AJ Mendez, who’s joining other fans turned artists like Megan Thee Stallion, who’s developing a series for Prime Video. This is huge because it’s bringing different cultures together and will definitely help anime reach even more people. As a fan, I think it’s going to be a really awesome time for all of us!

It’s exciting to see a previously underestimated art form become popular with a new wave of artists, who will likely inspire future creators. This is great news for the anime industry. Now we’re all eagerly awaiting its release! What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments and join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum!
