DC Confirms Its First Absolute Crossover (And the Heroes are Screwed)

The big comic event will feature several crossovers next year, highlighted by an epic battle between Superman and Homelander in DC K.O.: Boss Battle #1. Covers for DC K.O. #4 showcase the Final Four facing off against Absolute Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman.

It wasn’t a shock to many readers – the ending of DC K.O. #1 subtly foreshadowed this. Darkseid has secretly prepared a plan to prevent any hero from winning the tournament and obtaining the Heart of Apokolips. Besides controlling Booster Gold, Darkseid has several powerful agents – the ‘horsemen’ – ready to eliminate any potential winners. These horsemen, previously seen only in silhouette, have now been confirmed as the Absolute Trinity through recent announcements.

It’s natural to wonder why the heroes from the Absolute Universe are siding with Darkseid. They’ve always fought for what’s right, just like their counterparts in our universe, so why would they now fight for such a terrible villain? The strange Omega Energy visible in their eyes suggests they might be under some kind of control, similar to what happened to Booster Gold. Whether they’re possessed or not, this is a serious threat to the heroes of our universe, who aren’t ready for how ruthless these alternate versions of themselves have become.

Darkseid Has Created the Best Weapons to Defeat the Heroes

Darkseid’s creation of the Absolute Universe stripped the heroes of their usual strengths. However, this unexpectedly forged them into stronger, more determined versions of themselves. Superman, Wonder Woman, and their allies are now far more hardened and understand they must do whatever it takes to survive. A prime example is Absolute Batman, who still refuses to kill, but is willing to inflict serious, even brutal, injuries – like dismemberment with his Bat-Axe – to protect others.

It’s great when heroes can act on their own and defend themselves. However, the cover of DC K.O. #4 suggests these heroes are now under Darkseid’s control. He’s exploiting their aggressive nature, turning them into weapons and directing them against the remaining contestants in the tournament. While the Final Four fighters are already incredibly strong, they likely aren’t ready for how ruthless Darkseid has made the Absolute Universe’s Trinity.

This cover hints at a much bigger story. As the first time these two universes have crossed over, I expect the initial rivalry won’t last. However, this will be a tough fight for our heroes. Their counterparts are willing to do whatever it takes to win, and Darkseid is making them even more ruthless. If the DC K.O. fighters don’t meet that level of aggression, Darkseid’s forces could end the tournament and take over the DC Universe.
