PowerToys will finally fix Windows 11’s multi-monitor headache — better brightness controls are on the way

Windows 11’s popular PowerToys app is getting an upgrade. Soon, it will include a feature called PowerDisplay, letting you easily adjust the brightness and settings of all your connected monitors using a simple shortcut in the taskbar.

Niels Laute, a program manager at Microsoft, teased PowerDisplay on X.

PowerDisplay is a new tool that’s still under development. While its initial interface was created using artificial intelligence, it has since been redesigned. The software’s code is currently being checked for errors and improvements.

Laute announced on X that PowerDisplay is currently planned to launch in January, though that date isn’t confirmed. He also mentioned that apps like DisplayBuddy and Twinkle Tray offer similar features.

Many apps simplify managing multiple monitor settings, but Windows 11 doesn’t handle this as smoothly.

Inspiring Windows 11

PowerToys is a great, simple app that anyone can use, whether they’re a beginner or an experienced computer user. It’s also where Microsoft tries out new features and ideas for Windows 11.

As PowerToys gets more advanced, some of its ideas are finding their way into Windows itself. A good example is FancyZones, a window management tool in PowerToys. The window snapping feature in Windows 11 was inspired by FancyZones, though the Windows version is a bit simpler.

I’m hoping PowerDisplay develops in a way that keeps the detailed settings and power controls within the PowerToys app, but also allows some of its most useful features to be integrated directly into Windows 11. It would be great to see the best of both worlds!
