For years, Marvel has successfully brought many of its most famous and frightening supernatural characters from the comics to life in both its Cinematic Universe and other TV shows. The world of the supernatural has always been a strong part of Marvel’s history, and we’ve seen it explored in adaptations featuring characters like Scarlet Witch, Agatha Harkness, Werewolf by Night, and Doctor Strange. These stories may even be leading to a live-action version of the Midnight Sons team, but there are still many incredibly powerful supernatural characters waiting to be introduced.
As a Marvel fan, I’ve always been fascinated by the characters who wield truly unbelievable powers – the ones connected to the supernatural side of things. It’s amazing to think about what they can do – we’re talking full-body transformations, epic battles, harnessing insane energy, even going full-on fiery phoenix! Some of them are powerful enough to threaten entire realms, like Asgard, or control whole dimensions. Honestly, I’m thrilled Marvel seems to be leaning into these characters more, because the ones we’ve already seen have been absolutely phenomenal. I can’t wait to see what they do next!
7) Morbius

Although the 2022 film Morbius wasn’t well-received, it did introduce a very powerful Marvel character to the big screen. Jared Leto plays Dr. Michael Morbius, who accidentally turns himself into a living vampire while trying to cure a rare disease. Unlike other villains from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe who became heroes, Morbius remains an antihero, as he is in the comics. He possesses incredible strength, speed, heightened senses, rapid healing, and even hypnotic powers, making it disappointing that the movie didn’t fully showcase his potential.
6) Blade

Fans are eagerly anticipating Mahershala Ali’s first appearance as Blade, but we can still enjoy Wesley Snipes’ portrayal of the character. Snipes famously played the human-vampire hybrid in three Blade movies from the 1990s and early 2000s, and recently returned to the role in Deadpool & Wolverine. Blade is a master fighter, trained to take down vampires like Morbius, which gives him an edge over the Living Vampire. However, despite his skills, Blade isn’t as powerful as many of Marvel’s other supernatural heroes.
5) Man-Thing

Man-Thing’s appearance in the Werewolf by Night special was a pleasant surprise. In Marvel comics, he’s a very important and powerful character, known as the Guardian of the Nexus of Realities. While we haven’t seen that role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, Man-Thing has shown incredible abilities, like producing a powerful acid and controlling plants, along with other superhuman strengths. These elemental powers make him significantly stronger than Blade, and fans are hoping the two heroes will team up in the MCU to become an even greater force together.
4) Ghost Rider

Ghost Rider is a highly anticipated character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and while fans wait for his official debut, there are several previous live-action versions to enjoy. Nicolas Cage and Gabriel Luna have portrayed Ghost Rider, playing Johnny Blaze and Robbie Reyes respectively. Additionally, characters Phil Coulson and Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie have also taken on the role within the Agents of SHIELD series. All these versions share the incredible power of the Zarathos spirit, which transforms them into a powerful, flaming, skeletal antihero. Fans are eager to see Ghost Rider join the MCU, and many have suggested actors like Norman Reedus, Keanu Reeves, and Ryan Gosling for the part.
3) Surtur

Surtur appeared only once in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in Thor: Ragnarok, but quickly established himself as an incredibly powerful being. He destroyed Asgard with his sword, and his power source was a mystical crown – which Thor initially thought was just an eyebrow! Removing the crown would render him powerless. Ultimately, Thor used the Eternal Flame to activate Surtur’s power, which was the only way to defeat Hela and save the Asgardians, though it meant sacrificing their home planet. While much more powerful than Ghost Rider due to his ancient abilities, Surtur wasn’t invincible and could be overcome by other supernatural opponents.
2) Mephisto

Following appearances by Henry Fonda and Ciarán Hinds alongside Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider, Mephisto officially entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the 2025 series Ironheart, portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen. As the powerful demon ruler of Hell, Mephisto possesses nearly limitless supernatural abilities. He can perform magic, shapeshift, travel through dimensions and time, control minds, create illusions, and grant powers to others, including Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos) and Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne). Mephisto provides both Robbins and Williams with the Hood, a source of power fueled by another supernatural being within the MCU – one that Mephisto views as insignificant, yet could actually defeat him in a fight.
1) Dormammu

Surtur can destroy Asgard, and Mephisto may underestimate him, but Dormammu is far more powerful. As the ruler of the Dark Dimension, Dormammu is one of Marvel’s strongest beings – a god-like entity capable of warping reality. He nearly conquered Earth using followers like Kaecilius, attempting to expand his dimension, but Doctor Strange intervened. Dormammu is often seen as a universal threat with incredible abilities, including changing size, teleporting between dimensions and even resurrecting the dead. Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe might adjust his powers, and Mephisto might see him as an easy opponent, Dormammu remains a significantly more formidable force.
