Jenny McCarthy Says She Had “Growths” On Her Eyes Amid Health Scare

Jenny McCarthy is cherishing every moment after a difficult health scare.

A judge on The Masked Singer shared that she’s recovering after getting several infections from a dental implant that didn’t heal properly.

Jenny, 53, recently shared with People magazine that she’s undergone nine surgeries this year to address issues with her mouth. She explained that an initial infection led to several more, and then growths appeared on her eyes.

The actress, known for her work in Scary Movie and mother to 23-year-old Evan Joseph with her ex-husband John Asher, didn’t say when she had the surgery. However, she mentioned that her condition got worse as she tried to recover from swollen areas on her body.

She described losing her teeth and dental implants. Doctors discovered a serious bone infection in her jaw, which required a year of antibiotics and a diet of only soft foods. The infection kept returning whenever treatment seemed to be working, causing intense pain and swelling in her jaw.

After struggling with repeated infections for months, Jenny happily announced she can now eat solid food again.

As she recovers from a recent health scare, Jenny is prioritizing time with her husband, Donnie Wahlberg. She mentioned that while they’d love to celebrate Thanksgiving together, coordinating their busy schedules is proving a bit difficult. Donnie is also a father to two sons, Xavier, 31, and Elijah, 23, from a previous relationship.

She shared that she’s been filming The Masked Singer in Los Angeles while he’s been working on Boston Blue in Canada. This distance has made things tough, so they’re especially looking forward to spending Thanksgiving and Christmas together. They plan to stay home in Chicago, where she’ll cook a turkey and they can simply enjoy each other’s company.

Jenny has experienced health issues before. Earlier this year, she shared that she felt sick after attempting a vegan diet.

Melissa McCarthy, 52, shared on the Heal Squad podcast with Maria Menounos that she felt terrible while trying a vegan diet. She described feeling exhausted, fatigued, and generally unwell.

The plant-based diet actually worsened Jenny’s celiac disease, an autoimmune condition that makes it hard to digest gluten, and she also didn’t feel satisfied eating so few calories. When her doctor recommended a diet consisting entirely of meat, eggs, and seafood, Jenny’s energy levels returned.

She explained that a vegan diet works well for some people’s health and recovery, but not for others. It really comes down to personal belief and trusting your instincts, as well as paying attention to what your body tells you – it will signal what’s best for you.

Lupita Nyong’o received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, which was also the year she won an Academy Award for her acting performance.

She didn’t share her diagnosis until 2025, when she revealed on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with the condition for over ten years.

She explained that many girls are taught to accept period pain as a normal part of being a woman. This often leaves them dealing with a common issue in silence and feeling isolated.

In July 2025, the actress from Daisy Jones & The Six revealed she was hospitalized for a hernia. This happened because she’d been wearing pants that were too tight, which caused a gap in her abdominal muscles.

Someone messaged Suki on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, asking why she hadn’t posted recently. The message playfully hinted at a serious health issue, saying, ‘Have you ever considered I wore pants so tight six months ago that I got a hernia and have been afraid to tell you?’

The former star of Beverly Hills, 90210 shared in April 2025 that he was recovering from surgery because his appendix was close to rupturing.

Adam Devine revealed that injuries from being hit by a cement truck as a child continue to cause him problems now.

“It’s been incredibly difficult,” Devine shared on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025. “I experience spasms all over my body, and doctors recently told me I was facing a life-threatening situation—I was told I might not have much time left.”

He explained that his pain is intermittent, saying, “My body has a few quirks and isn’t quite perfect.”

A former contestant on The Bachelor went to the hospital because of severe back pain. He said he was in so much pain he had to crawl on his hands and knees, and the pain got worse during a road trip with a friend.

Okay, so he was talking about it on his podcast, Trading Secrets, and it’s still totally messing with me! He said his knees are still tingling, which is wild! He put it in perspective – like, just a few weeks ago, he was squatting almost 300 pounds! And now? He can’t even do a squat! Seriously, he falls over if he tries to do a single-leg squat. He said it feels like he had a stroke, it’s honestly terrifying to hear!

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Gina Kirschenheiter, from The Real Housewives of Orange County, revealed that her ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack in March 2025, but he is recovering well.

In March 2025, the actor from 30 Rock experienced a medical issue at a New York Knicks game and had to be taken out of Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.

The comedian later posted on social media to explain he’d actually gotten food poisoning and was starting to feel better.

In February 2025, the former Even Stevens star revealed she was shot in the face during a birthday celebration for her husband, Brendan Rooney. They were on a trip to go clay pigeon shooting when the incident occurred.

In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a gun unsafely. Brendan Rooney quickly helped her, evaluated her injuries, and drove her to the hospital. She was hit five times, and one bullet narrowly missed her right eye, coming within an inch of a direct hit.

The former Kim Possible star shared that a small piece of something got stuck behind their eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, and they’ll be keeping a close watch on the situation. Thankfully, their vision is currently normal.

The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving a frightening experience. She urged everyone to hug their loved ones often, emphasizing the importance of appreciating life and the people in it.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, despite its downsides, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier,” Schumer was surprised when doctors began commenting on interviews, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome due to high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted her to realize she’d received steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. She later learned she had a form of Cushing syndrome that would resolve on its own, which she called “the greatest news imaginable.” Schumer shared that she wouldn’t have known about the condition if not for the online commentary.

In December 2024, an AHL player suffered a skate cut during a game and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. After his son made a full recovery, New Jersey Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald shared with ESPN how relieved they were, saying, “We feel very lucky, and I wouldn’t want any parent to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly developed stroke-like symptoms, initially struggling to respond when Justin noticed something was wrong. She couldn’t speak and the right side of her face began to droop, but these symptoms eventually passed.

After going to the hospital, doctors discovered she had a small blood clot in her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). Further testing at UCLA revealed a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO).

Doctors determined the blood clot had traveled through the PFO and to her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey underwent a successful procedure to close the hole in her heart and is now recovering well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained that the virus affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it was becoming increasingly difficult to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well, calling the situation scary but assuring everyone that he would be okay and was grateful he was on the mend.

As someone who often talks about wellness, I’ve been following Jamie Foxx’s health journey with a lot of empathy. He recently shared what happened back in April 2023, and it was a really powerful story. He was in Atlanta and suddenly felt a terrible headache. He asked a friend for aspirin, but before he could even take it, he lost consciousness and doesn’t remember the next 20 days. Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but thankfully, his sister Deidra knew something wasn’t right and insisted on taking him to the hospital. It turned out he’d experienced a brain bleed that led to a stroke. Twenty days later, he woke up on May 4th, and things were incredibly difficult – he was in a wheelchair and unable to walk. He then dedicated himself to rehab and therapy in Chicago. He’s expressed so much gratitude for the prayers he received, saying he truly needed every single one. It’s a reminder that even the strongest among us need support, and it highlights the importance of listening to your body and seeking help when something feels off.

Okay, so I was chatting with a reality TV star, and she shared something pretty intense! She told me she actually felt like she died while running a mile during the very first challenge on this NBC competition show she’s on. It was a really scary moment for her, apparently!

She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling like she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather before everything went dark. After that, she saw light, which led her to realize she had died that day.

She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where your body essentially starts to shut down.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the show, she experienced a severe headache at the gym, which quickly escalated. She described becoming violently ill and realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

A hospital scan revealed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a life-threatening stroke caused by a ruptured aneurysm. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she temporarily lost her ability to speak, often muttering incoherently.

Though she left the hospital after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had grown and required a second surgery. This procedure was unsuccessful, leading to a massive bleed and putting her life at risk. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia Clarke has since made a full recovery and is now at 100%.

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, recently shared how much she appreciates her family’s support. In January 2024, she suffered a stroke and immediately reached out to her loved ones, sending them a picture and a text message. She told TopMob News that everyone quickly came to her aid.

Cori ended up staying in the hospital longer than expected due to other health issues. While she could have gone home after the stroke, she was also dealing with lupus and kidney problems.

Fortunately, Cori is now recovering well. She says she’s feeling great and has been working on regaining some motor skills, but overall is doing fine.

Shailene Woodley struggled with significant health issues throughout her early twenties. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she revealed she experienced hearing loss, extreme fatigue – unable to walk for more than five minutes without needing hours of rest – and persistent stomach pain. She faced confusion due to conflicting diagnoses from different doctors. Determined to find answers, Woodley, who has a background in herbalism, sought help from both traditional doctors and alternative healers. This search for well-being lasted a decade. The physical discomfort led to emotional challenges, including fear of food, body image issues, and a struggle with her identity. Thankfully, after focusing on both her physical and mental health, Shailene is now healthy and feeling much better.
