As a huge fan of animation, I’m really excited that South Park is giving us a new episode right before Thanksgiving! It’s been all over the news lately – apparently, even the President has been talking about it, and there’s buzz about a possible appearance from Bluey, which would be amazing. Comedy Central just released a few sneak peeks, but honestly, something feels a little strange about them… it’s got me really curious to see what they’re up to.
Even though South Park recently made a joke about the show losing quality due to its political humor, previews of the next episode seem to be a major departure from everything it’s done before. This makes me a little wary, and I have a couple of ideas about why that might be.

South Park May Be Doing A One-Off Holiday Episode Disconnected From Its Current Storyline
Okay, so the new South Park special has Cartman surprisingly back to his old self after that whole Peter Thiel situation. The town’s gearing up for their annual Turkey Trot, and it looks like they’re going to try and win with some seriously sketchy science – which, honestly, is pretty much par for the course for these guys. It feels like a typical Thanksgiving episode, and considering how many they’ve done over the years (you can catch ’em all on Paramount+, by the way), that’s not a bad thing. Plus, Tolkien’s making a return, which is always a welcome sight. It’s not groundbreaking, but it seems like a solid, funny special.
It’s odd that the promotional material for the new episode doesn’t include characters like Satan or politicians such as J.D. Vance. The last deepfake-related episode also lacked similar promotional content, instead just teasing the adventure itself. Could South Park be pausing its current story arc to do a more self-contained, traditional episode?

South Park Released Fake Images And A Fake Synopsis And Will Do Something Completely Different
It’s also possible that South Park is playing with viewers again, just like the show creators did with a misleading trailer earlier this season. Considering how many people travel for Thanksgiving to be with family, I doubt Trey Parker and Matt Stone would pass up a chance to create some buzz during the holiday.

Does Paramount Have A South Park Problem? What The New CEO Says
I’m not convinced this episode, which seems like a particularly strong and standalone installment of South Park, is genuine. I suspect it’s a tactic to attract a wider audience, including those who normally wouldn’t watch, only to follow it up with a more controversial episode that sharply criticizes the US government or politics. Basically, it feels like a way to lower people’s defenses before delivering a harder-hitting message.
I might be totally off base here, and it’s possible Comedy Central simply chose images that avoid politics to attract a wider audience. We’ll probably only know for sure when the show airs, but I was going to watch it regardless.

Paramount+ offers streaming plans starting at $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year. You can watch current and past episodes of shows like South Park. Choose between the Essential plan at $7.99/month and the ad-free Premium plan at $12.99/month. For the best value, consider an annual subscription to save money on your favorite entertainment. The new season of South Park will be on Comedy Central Wednesdays at 10 p.m. Eastern Time as part of the 2025 TV lineup. I’m really looking forward to the holiday episode and hoping it’s funny enough to talk about during Thanksgiving dinner!
