With the holidays continuing and 2025 approaching, Mojang Studios is getting ready to launch one final Minecraft update. We now have the official release date for the ‘Mounts of Mayhem’ update, so players worldwide know when they can expect it.
As an analyst, I’m tracking the final Minecraft update of the year, which is scheduled to launch on December 9th, 2025 – that’s just around the corner! Mojang Studios is already in the final stages of testing, sharing near-final versions with their insider community to ensure a smooth release.
Get ready for the Mounts of Mayhem update for Minecraft! Here’s a brief overview to help you prepare for its release.
Lots of mounts and lots of mayhem are almost here

The Mounts of Mayhem update adds a lot of new content, primarily focused on rideable creatures. The biggest addition is the nautilus, a new underwater creature you can tame and ride. When you’re on a nautilus, it lets you breathe underwater, making exploration much easier.
Enemies now have more ways to travel! Drowned can ride zombie nautiluses, zombies ride zombie horses, and husks and the new sun-bleached parched skeletons ride camels.
Mojang is adding spears to the game to make combat and travel more exciting! These new weapons let you attack with quick jabs, long lunges, and even jousting moves – dealing more damage the faster you are. Plus, unlike some harder-to-make weapons, spears are easy to craft using common materials.
We’re eager to find out how players enjoy the new spear weapon and mounted combat features when the Mounts of Mayhem update releases on December 9th for both Minecraft: Bedrock and Java Editions.
As the year wraps up, I’ve been following what Mojang has planned for Minecraft. It looks like they’re making modding for the Java Edition much easier by removing code obfuscation – that’s a big win for the community! I also learned they’re teaming up with King to create a new mobile game called Minecraft Blast, which sounds like a fun, different way to experience the Minecraft universe.
