Comics often go through big changes, known as reboots and refreshes. Because many comics have been around for years, publishers sometimes need to update characters and teams. These changes can be small, like a new costume, or major, completely rewriting a character’s history and surprising long-time fans.
Change is a constant in comics, and it’s important for keeping things fresh. However, some Marvel characters receive much more attention – and updates – than others. While heroes like Jean Grey are frequently revamped, many others are underused or feel like they need a fresh start. Some simply need more appearances! Here are seven Marvel heroes who could benefit from a reboot or a significant return to the comics.
7) Dazzler

Dazzler, whose real name is Alison Blaire, stands out as one of the most original X-Men. Originally planned as a collaboration between a record label and Marvel Comics in the late 1970s, the idea of incorporating music tie-ins was later dropped, and she continued as a comic book character. Dazzler is a mutant with the ability to turn sound into light and energy—a power that comes in handy, given her career as a pop star. The concept was perfect for the disco era, and her series ran for 42 issues, but she hasn’t been a major focus in the comics since.
As a huge movie fan, I honestly think Dazzler is begging for a reboot. She’s got such a cool combination of powers and a life outside of crime-fighting, and in today’s world of celebrities and social media, her story feels incredibly relevant. She deserves a really modern take – maybe even a completely new origin story to freshen things up.
6) Blade

Fans have been clamoring for more Blade, but he hasn’t had a significant appearance in a while. With a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie potentially on the horizon, it feels like a good time for the comics to revisit and update the character.
To revitalize the Blade character, it would be effective to return him to his origins as a gritty, violent vampire hunter. Born with vampire lineage but immune to their bites, Blade has always been driven by a fierce hatred of vampires and dedicated his life to eliminating them. While later stories explored mystical elements and an alliance with Doctor Strange, a return to the basics – focusing on his nocturnal, street-level vampire hunting – could be a welcome change and a powerful way to showcase the darker side of the Marvel universe.
5) Night Thrasher
Dwayne Taylor, the creator and leader of the New Warriors, doesn’t have any superpowers. After witnessing his parents’ murder, he inherited a vast fortune and uses it to support the team. He fights crime with expert martial arts, high-tech armor, and even a skateboard – making him a bit like Batman! He’s a genuinely compelling character, and that’s why he deserves a fresh start.
Focusing on Night Thrasher’s core story while moving away from the Batman comparisons and the skateboarding aspect could be a compelling direction for the character. It’s rare to see a Marvel hero without superpowers, so exploring a street-level character who relies on skill and strategy instead would be a unique approach.
4) Longshot

Longshot is a neat character from Marvel’s 1980s era who deserves more attention. Originally from Mojoworld, he’s a humanoid with the power of good luck and a really compelling backstory – he suffers from amnesia and can’t even remember his own name! A modern update could really highlight what makes him special.
Longshot has a lot of unrealized potential. Revisiting his backstory and improving his abilities could be really compelling. Plus, he’s historically connected to the character Dazzler, making him a natural fit if she were ever reimagined or rebooted.
3) The Inhumans

The Inhumans aren’t just one hero needing a new start – the entire group feels outdated. Marvel often tells stories about the Inhuman Royal Family, but there’s a much larger world of Inhumans beyond characters like Black Bolt, Medusa, and Karnak.
Marvel has recently been exploring the Inhumans more, particularly within the pages of ‘Imperial.’ While the Inhumans are a strong team with a lot of potential, they haven’t been used to their full ability and feel a bit old-fashioned. A modern update, perhaps focusing on a new group of Inhumans and telling more realistic stories, could be just what these characters need to thrive.
2) Pixie

Pixie isn’t a character who needs a complete overhaul—she simply needs to be rediscovered. Megan Gwynn, a Welsh mutant and fairy hybrid, is a uniquely fascinating X-Man. Her design is striking, featuring insect-like wings for flight and vibrant pink hair. She also possesses magical abilities, including the power to create illusions with her ‘pixie dust,’ and wields a magical weapon known as the Souldagger.
Pixie is a compelling character with a great design, but she’s still relatively new to the Marvel Universe, debuting in 2004, and hasn’t had a major role yet. It would be great to see Marvel explore her potential, along with other lesser-known X-Men, instead of relying on the same characters repeatedly. Her unique background as a hybrid offers a lot of interesting storytelling possibilities.
1) Multiple Man

Jamie Madrox, also known as Multiple Man, is a compelling X-Men character who doesn’t get enough attention. His power to create duplicates offers a lot of possibilities for interesting and layered storylines. While he’s had some well-received series, like the 2018 run by Matthew Rosenberg, he’s largely been a minor character. With the X-Men entering a new era of storytelling in 2026 with the ‘Shadows of Tomorrow’ initiative, now would be an ideal time to revisit Multiple Man and explore his full potential. It’s surprising we haven’t seen more development with this character.
