Marvel’s Wolverine Is Shaping up to Become the PS5’s Best Superhero Game

Fans are eagerly awaiting Marvel’s Wolverine, a new game currently being developed for the PlayStation 5 by Insomniac Games. Insomniac is well-known for the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man and its sequel, both of which are considered some of the best comic book-based games ever made. Because of their previous success, expectations are high that Marvel’s Wolverine will be just as impressive, bringing the popular Canadian mutant to life in a spectacular gaming experience.

The game was first announced in September 2021 with a teaser trailer, and development has been ongoing ever since. Unfortunately, Insomniac Games suffered a ransomware attack in December 2023, which led to some early glimpses of the game leaking online, though they were quickly taken down. Despite the disruption, fans are even more enthusiastic, as everything suggests this game will follow the popular formula of the Marvel’s Spider-Man series. Marvel’s Wolverine Is Going to Slash the Competition

Marvel Comics is known for its incredible characters, and many have made the leap to successful video games. Wolverine is one of those characters, appearing in several popular games over the years. The game X-Men Origins: Wolverine, based on the movie, was a pleasant surprise hit. Interestingly, while working on Marvel’s Spider-Man, the developers at Insomniac Games started discussing a new Wolverine game. Marvel’s Wolverine promises to be as well-made and detailed as their Spider-Man games, and it will even take place in the same shared universe.

Just thinking about Insomniac making a Wolverine game gets me excited, because if their Spider-Man games are anything to go by, it’ll probably have a similar awesome look and gameplay. One thing that’s cool is how different the characters are – Spider-Man’s games always stay in New York, which totally fits his vibe. But Wolverine’s a guy who travels the world! They could pull from all his amazing stories set in places like Japan and Canada, and really create a captivating adventure. As a fan of both the comics and how Wolverine’s been portrayed in cartoons and movies, I think they could really nail it and make something everyone loves.

If you loved Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, you’ll be happy to hear that many of the same developers are working on Marvel’s Wolverine. Thankfully, the game assets that were leaked in a recent cyberattack are no longer available. However, those leaks were from very early in development and wouldn’t have shown you much of the final game anyway. While details about the story and setting are still scarce, Insomniac shared a brief gameplay trailer in September 2025, and it looks fantastic. You can watch the trailer below.

Given What Little Has Been Revealed, It’S Not Going to Be Easy Waiting for Marvel’s Wolverine

What really stood out in the gameplay trailer wasn’t the visuals, characters, or even Wolverine’s classic yellow suit – it was the sheer amount of blood. This game embraces Wolverine’s brutal nature; he’s a fierce fighter who tears through opponents. Unlike the toned-down violence in the Venom movies, Marvel’s Wolverine doesn’t shy away from graphic gore. The gameplay looks raw, intense, and impressively made. The wait for this game is going to be tough, and getting a copy might be a challenge when it finally releases due to high demand.
