Nintendo Buys Singapore Studio Behind Papercraft PS5 Console Exclusive Hirogami

Nintendo is acquiring Bandai Namco Studios Singapore, the team responsible for creating Hirogami, a unique papercraft game released earlier this year exclusively on PlayStation 5.

Founded in 2013, the team has spent the last 12 years working as a support studio on games like Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown and SoulCalibur 6.

The studio also has a strong, ongoing partnership with Nintendo, having contributed to major games like Splatoon 3 and New Pokémon Snap. This means they already have a well-established working relationship with Nintendo.

I’m so excited! It looks like on April 1st, 2026, this studio is officially becoming Nintendo Studios Singapore. From what I understand, they’ll still be helping out with a bunch of Nintendo’s big games, which is fantastic!

Earlier this year, Mario Maker announced plans to grow its game development team by buying other companies with specific skills.

President Shuntaro Furukawa said during earnings call earlier this year:

Nintendo plans to boost its game development capabilities by expanding its internal teams. This will involve both bringing new development studios under the Nintendo umbrella and improving our existing facilities, including the completion of the new Corporate Headquarters Development Center, Building No. 2.

While Microsoft has been making several large acquisitions recently, Nintendo seems to prefer building lasting partnerships. Because of this, PlayStation probably won’t be significantly affected.
