Popular Co-Op Survival Game Reveals New Switch 2 Edition Coming Soon

While there aren’t a ton of brand new Nintendo games available for the Switch 2 yet, the number of games is definitely increasing. The Switch 2’s improved hardware is allowing many popular titles to come to the Switch family for the first time, and we’re also seeing updated versions of recent games. It looks like January will bring not only the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Switch 2, but also a Switch 2 version of another well-loved cooperative game, launching alongside a big content update.

Core Keeper recently announced its biggest update yet! In addition to a large amount of free new content, the developers also revealed that Core Keeper is coming to the Switch 2 with a special enhanced edition. Both the Switch 2 version and the free 1.2 update, titled “Void & Voltage,” will be released on January 28th, 2026, across all platforms.

Core Keeper Confirms Switch 2 Edition & Next Major Update

Core Keeper is a fun and open-ended survival game where you build, craft, and explore. It first became available on Steam in 2022 as an early version, and was fully released on PlayStation, Xbox (including with Game Pass), and Nintendo Switch in August 2024. Many players have enjoyed it as a similar experience to the popular game Terraria. Core Keeper features charming pixel art and relaxing gameplay, and you can play with up to eight friends to build a base, gather resources, farm, and battle to discover the secrets of the Core.

Core Keeper has been very well-received on Steam, earning an Overwhelmingly Positive rating in its first year. The developers continue to support the game with regular updates and substantial new content. The most recent major update, “Bags & Blasts,” came out in March 2025. Now, the team is preparing for another big update and a launch on a new platform. You can watch the trailer for the 1.2 update below to get a preview of what’s coming.

This update introduces exciting new content for all players! You’ll be able to explore a new area called Breaker’s Reach, complete with a challenging new boss. The resources found there will help you craft better weapons and tools, making it easier to build your base. Plus, you can venture into the mysterious Void, a sub-biome where reality is falling apart.

This update includes exciting new content and several improvements to make the game even better, like echo maps, new waypoints, and achievements. It will be available when the game launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28th. If you already own Core Keeper on Switch, you’ll be happy to hear the Switch 2 version will be a free update! While the specific details are still being finalized, you can expect the usual improvements to performance, like a smoother frame rate and higher resolution.

Core Keeper is currently available on PC, PlayStation (PS4 and PS5), Xbox (Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S), and Nintendo Switch for $19.99. It will also launch on the new Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28th, along with a major update (version 1.2) for all platforms.
