The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently juggling many projects. Beyond the various TV series, the first big movie release planned for 2026 is Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This film will launch a new chapter for Peter Parker, who is facing challenges without his usual allies while trying to protect New York City. But even if Spider-Man succeeds, a massive threat could undo all his progress by the end of the year: Avengers: Doomsday, featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, promises a potentially universe-ending crisis.
We don’t yet know the specifics of Doctor Doom’s plan, but it appears to involve Franklin Richards and the entire multiverse. This massive threat will undoubtedly force Earth’s heroes – and some mutants – into action. With so much going on, it will be challenging for the film to focus on smaller, character-driven scenes. However, there’s one interaction the movie absolutely must include, or fans will be very upset.
The MCU Is Still Waiting to Bring Two Characters Back Together

A fantastic aspect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the development of compelling relationships. We often see characters start as rivals and eventually form strong bonds, like Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. Though they’re currently disagreeing about the future of the “Avengers,” it’s clear they’ll eventually reconcile and team up again. This dynamic is similar to Thor and Loki, who spend much of their lives arguing and fighting. Loki always feels like an outsider in Asgard, and despite Thor’s desire to trust him, it’s a struggle. They remain enemies until Thor: Ragnarok, when they finally unite to save their people from their sister, Hela.
Following their farewell to Asgard, Thor and Loki were enjoying a moment of peace. But, true to form for a Marvel movie, trouble quickly arrived in the form of Thanos and his Black Order, who attacked their ship while searching for the Space Stone. Loki attempted to trick Thanos, but it cost him his life. Thor was devastated as he watched his brother fall, barely registering his own words, “The sun will shine on us again.” Grief-stricken and focused on revenge, Thor didn’t realize a reunion was still possible. However, in the upcoming story, a new dawn will indeed break, and it’s now up to certain powerful forces to make sure the Asgardians get a chance to experience it.
Avengers: Doomsday Could Feature the Greatest MCU Reunion Yet

Thor and Loki are currently leading very different lives. Thor has become a father, raising Gorr’s daughter after his victory in Thor: Love and Thunder. Meanwhile, a version of Loki is working tirelessly to protect the multiverse from collapsing. Trouble is sure to find Loki, as he’s the only one preventing total chaos. But even though someone might want to eliminate him, the forces at play need to avoid repeating past tragedies involving the God of Mischief.
Honestly, I think the story would be much stronger if Loki had to swallow his pride and go to Thor for help. I can already picture Thor’s reaction – total suspicion, convinced it’s some elaborate scheme! But eventually, the truth would come out, and let me tell you, the fans would love to see those two brothers team up again after all this time. They could even recreate that hilarious “Get Help!” scene from the first Avengers movie! It would be especially great considering the Loki we see in Doomsday never got the chance to experience Sakaar and all that craziness with the Revengers. It feels like a missed opportunity, and bringing Thor into the mix could really fix that.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
