Hazbin Hotel Season 3’s Key Change Teased By Series Composer [Exclusive]

The animated series Hazbin Hotel has become a global phenomenon thanks to its mix of dark humor, compelling characters, and memorable songs. As Season 2 ends, composer Sam Haft, who also works on Helluva Boss, spoke with ComicBook in an exclusive interview. Haft, along with co-composer Andrew Underberg, has been key in creating the musical style of the show, giving unique sounds not only to Heaven and Hell, but to each character as well. While he didn’t reveal any specific details about the upcoming third season, Haft did offer a small hint about what’s to come.

Haft was careful not to share too many details about Season 3, emphasizing the need to keep creative surprises under wraps so fans can enjoy the new episodes of Hazbin Hotel without spoilers.

Haft Promised That Season 3 Will Paint With “Different Colors”

When asked about the overall feel of the music in Hazbin Hotel Season 3, composer Haft mentioned that creator Vivienne Medrano described it as a “very romantic season.” Haft agreed, saying he would definitely support that description.

The show is moving away from its usual large-scale conflicts and dramatic power plays, and instead focusing more on relationships and emotions. While fans are eager to see a potential romance between Lilith and Lucifer, the term ‘romantic’ here can also mean a stronger emphasis on close bonds between friends, like the one between Cherri and Angel. Essentially, the show is shifting its attention from world-ending threats to the personal lives and feelings of its characters.

As a huge fan, I was really hooked by the action and drama of Season 2, but I’m even more excited about what’s coming in Season 3. The composer, Haft, has hinted at a real emotional shift, and that the music will reflect that. He said they’re aiming for a different ‘tonal color’ this season, which to me suggests we’ll hear a change in the kinds of instruments used, the harmonies, and even the overall musical style. I’m picturing a score that’s less about big, flashy moments and more focused on deeper, more vulnerable emotions – maybe more ballads or songs that really explore what the characters are going through. It sounds like they’re moving beyond the high energy of the first two seasons and delving into something much more complex and character-driven, and honestly, I can’t wait!

Even though the show is taking a slightly different direction, Haft is very sure the music in the next season will be even better than before. He says, “If you enjoyed Season 2, I think you’ll be amazed by the music in Season 3.” This sneak peek confirms that while the story will continue to be intense, the next part will also be surprisingly touching and musically delightful.
