Wow, it’s been two months since Peacemaker Season 2 ended, and I’m still thinking about all the crazy twists! Robert Patrick, who played Auggie Smith, recently talked about one of the biggest surprises: his character coming back through the multiverse. It was so intense seeing Peacemaker, played by John Cena, having to deal with another version of his dad and brother, especially after losing them in his original world. It was a nice touch to learn that Auggie wasn’t a horrible person in every universe, even though he still dies at the end. It didn’t really make things better for Chris, but it was a small comfort, honestly.
Patrick recently told ComicBook that he enjoyed the unexpected take on his character in the Earth-X universe. He praised James Gunn for taking such a bold approach, explaining that it was fun to see his character, Augie Smith, portrayed as a genuinely good person in this alternate reality. He especially loved the speech Gunn wrote for him.
In Season 2, Episode 7 of Peacemaker, titled “Like a Keith in the Night,” Auggie from Earth-X and Keith have a tense conversation with Chris, John Economos, and Emilia Harcourt. After refusing to avenge the death of his alternate universe’s counterpart, Keith is angered when Harcourt labels him a Nazi. He explains that while he despises the ideologies and actions of people from Earth-X, he prefers to concentrate on fighting the evil he can actually change.
The portrayal isn’t entirely flattering – his quietness could still be seen as contributing to the issues around him – but it reveals a more nuanced character than the Auggie we met in Season 1. Patrick himself was happy to have the opportunity to explore that depth.
Patrick shared that he loves having the chance to do interesting work in his career. He feels very lucky and grateful for the opportunities he receives, as many actors don’t get to experience the same things. He truly appreciates being able to do what he does.
The big reveal about Auggie in Peacemaker Season 2 doesn’t have a lasting impact, as Vigilante unexpectedly bursts in and kills Chris’s father mid-speech. It’s a shocking and darkly funny moment, but it prevents Chris from getting the emotional resolution he deserves. However, with James Gunn’s new DC Universe exploring the multiverse, there’s still a chance Auggie could return in some form, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed.
Could Robert Patrick Return as Auggie Smith Again After Peacemaker Season 2?

As a big fan of Peacemaker, I was really interested to hear what James Gunn had to say about where these characters might go after Season 3. Apparently, we might see them show up in other DC movies and shows! With the DCU now exploring multiple universes, the possibilities are endless. I even read in an interview with Screen Rant that Patrick, one of the show’s creators, hinted that even characters like Auggie could potentially return. It’s exciting to think about where things could go!
The actor said he and James Gunn haven’t had any specific conversations about future projects. But when asked about potentially revisiting his character, Auggie, he left the door open, saying, “Anything could happen, you never know.”
John Cena, who plays the lead in Peacemaker, recently shared that he found out he’d be returning for Season 2 in a surprising way. He said he didn’t know about his involvement until he casually ran into his co-star, Steve Agee, while walking his dogs.
Considering this, James Gunn might have another exciting role for John Cena, potentially bringing his character back for future projects. While Peacemaker Season 1 neatly concludes his story arc, fans would definitely welcome the chance to see more of him.
I’m really hoping we get to see Auggie back in the DC Universe! Let me know what you think in the comments, and let’s talk about it over on the ComicBook Forum – the discussion is already heating up!
