When a TV show goes on break, it can be really frustrating for viewers. During the peak of shows like those in the Arrowverse, each series would end its mid-season run with a big cliffhanger, leaving major questions about characters or the show’s direction. That wait for new episodes always felt agonizing, and it’s still the same even with streaming services. Netflix recently released the final season of Stranger Things in three volumes, starting just before Thanksgiving. Now that the first part has aired, fans face a long wait until the second part arrives in December.
If you’re feeling lost after finishing the first part of Stranger Things Season 5, the simplest thing to do is just rewatch the whole series on Netflix! That way, you won’t miss any hidden details or references. But many fans have probably already done that, so here are three other excellent sci-fi TV shows to enjoy while you wait for the final part to come out.
3) The Umbrella Academy

One of the things that makes Stranger Things so good is its cast of characters. Everyone in Hawkins, Indiana feels fully developed, with complex storylines that allow them to grow into heroes—or villains. But Netflix has another show with equally compelling characters that has just finished its run.
The Umbrella Academy centers around the Hargreeves siblings, a family of superheroes who all have complicated feelings about their father. After his death, they come back together and get caught up in a massive, science fiction-filled story involving the end of the world, time travel, and other incredible events.
2) Riverdale

Unlike many large-scale streaming series, Stranger Things is set in a small town unprepared for the arrival of creatures from another dimension. However, the people of Hawkins band together and rely on each other when things get difficult.
Though it’s not always perfect, Riverdale definitely has its high points, particularly in the beginning when the characters deal with some seriously intense and scary situations. They even develop superpowers that are pretty impressive! It’s not for everyone, but Riverdale is worth checking out.
1) The OA

The final season of Stranger Things will definitely provide a conclusive ending, not leave viewers on a cliffhanger. The creators, the Duffer brothers, want to wrap up all storylines and create a truly satisfying finale that establishes the show as one of the best ever. It’s a good opportunity, as many excellent shows don’t get the chance to end properly.
Also available on Netflix, The OA tells the story of a young woman who reappears after being missing for years, claiming she’s traveled from another dimension. She then gathers a group of people to help her with an important task. Both seasons are beautifully made and deal with complex, adult topics. While the show’s ending isn’t perfect, The OA is a series where the experience of watching it is more rewarding than the conclusion itself.
