More Metal Gear Solid remakes could be coming, but it likely won’t be the continuation fans are hoping for. The Metal Gear Solid series is a highly respected franchise in gaming, famous for launching Hideo Kojima’s career and introducing groundbreaking stealth gameplay with complex storylines. While the series seemed to finish with Metal Gear Solid V in 2015, it might have continued if Kojima hadn’t left – he often stated each new game would be the last. Ultimately, Metal Gear Solid V was designed as the concluding chapter.
The Metal Gear Solid franchise is still popular, and Konami decided to bring it back earlier this year with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a rebuilt version of the third game. Konami likely started with this particular game because fans love it, and it’s also the first story when looking at the series chronologically, which makes it a good starting point for new players. Now the question is: what’s next for the series? There appear to be several possibilities.
Metal Gear Solid 4 May Require a Remake Rather Than a Remaster

Fans are anticipating a new game in the series, but it’s also likely we’ll see more updated versions of older titles. Konami has hinted at another collection of remasters, similar to the package that included the original three games. A future collection might feature Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid 5, though Metal Gear Solid 4 may not be included.
Noriaki Okamura, the producer of the Metal Gear Solid series, recently discussed the franchise’s future with Real Sound. He stated that plans for new games or re-releases are still up in the air. However, a straightforward remaster or port of Metal Gear Solid 4 appears unlikely due to the game’s complex original code, which was specifically designed for the PlayStation 3 and has kept it tied to that console for years. He highlighted the technical difficulties involved in updating it for other platforms.
Back then, creating 3D graphics required unique hardware and complex programming, especially for a game like Metal Gear Solid 4. Recreating that now would be extremely difficult.
It looks like a complete remake of Metal Gear Solid 4 would be necessary for it to be re-released. While a simpler remaster is possible, it doesn’t seem very likely right now.
