Best Christmas TV for 2025 – your guide to what’s worth watching

1. Amandaland Christmas special

Get ready to revisit SoHa! The popular spin-off, Amandaland, is returning for a special holiday episode!

I’m really excited for the new season! Lucy Punch is back as Amanda, which is fantastic – she’s always so funny. And Joanna Lumley returns as her mother, Felicity, but get this – Jennifer Saunders, her co-star from ‘Absolutely Fabulous,’ is joining the cast as Felicity’s sister, Aunt Joan! Apparently, Aunt Joan is a total contrast to Felicity – think loud, enthusiastic, and very upper-class, but in a completely different way. It’s going to be brilliant seeing those two together again!

Amanda’s family is going to Aunt Joan’s country house for Christmas, but things get complicated when Mal and Anne join them. Amanda hopes to recapture the special Christmas memories she has of that place, but finds it difficult.

The Amandaland Christmas special will air on BBC One and iPlayer on Christmas Day at 9:15pm.

2. The Night Manager season 2

As a huge fan of the original, I was thrilled to hear The Night Manager is back! It’s been nine years since we last saw Jonathan Pine, and Tom Hiddleston is reprising his role for another really intense mission. This time, he gets tangled up with a dangerous new character – Teddy Dos Santos, a Colombian businessman played by Diego Calva. It looks like things are about to get seriously explosive!

The series will also feature returning cast members like Olivia Colman (known for The Crown) as Angela Burr, Alistair Petrie (from Sex Education) as Sandy Langbourne, Douglas Hodge (who appeared in Joker) as Rex Mayhew, Michael Nardone (from Traces) as Frisky, and Noah Jupe (of A Quiet Place) as Daniel Roper. Joining them are new additions to the cast, including Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six), Indira Varma (Doctor Who), Paul Chahidi (Wicked Little Letters), and Hayley Squires (Adult Material).

The second season of The Night Manager will begin airing on BBC One and iPlayer on New Year’s Day, January 1st, 2026, at 9:05 PM.

3. All Creatures Great and Small Christmas special

The story takes place at Christmas 1945, the first Christmas after the war. Helen isn’t feeling well, so James has to organize the Christmas nativity play in Darrowby.

Elsewhere, Siegfried returns to Mrs. Stokes’s Farm to check on Hilda the goat, who’s been getting into trouble again. Meanwhile, Mrs. Hall is focused on winning the local darts competition, hoping to claim the first-place prize: a turkey, which is hard to come by because of the war.

The housekeeper at Skeldale is encouraging everyone to improve their skills, hoping it will help them succeed. However, a surprise visit from an old friend throws her and Siegfried off balance, leading the vet to make a major decision about what he wants to do. At the same time, Tristan and Charlotte are becoming increasingly close.

This is the last season Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will host, but all the judges – Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke – are back, meaning we’re sure to see both positive and critical feedback.

8. The Scarecrow’s Wedding

Each Christmas, a new animated film based on a book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler has become a beloved tradition.

The team at Shipton Abbott police station is puzzled when a man with amnesia is found on their doorstep, clutching a photo of Humphrey. As they try to figure out his identity, they’re also dealing with a busy holiday season and a string of other cases.

Meanwhile, with Anne and Zoe’s assistance, Martha rushes to complete her secret project. At the same time, Kelby attempts to help a man stuck inside a snowman suit.

With surprise guests arriving, a surge in holiday crimes, and a touching reunion in the works, the team has a lot on its plate. Can they handle everything and still be prepared for a major discovery?

Watching a Harlan Coben thriller has become a New Year’s Day tradition for many, and this year’s offering, “Run Away,” is perfectly timed to help you relax after New Year’s celebrations or before heading back to work.

The latest series boasts a fantastic cast, including Ruth Jones and James Nesbitt, known from Gavin & Stacey. Jones plays private investigator Elena Ravenscroft, while Nesbitt portrays Simon Greene, a bewildered dad.

Simon Nesbitt seemed to have it all – a wonderful family, a successful career, and a beautiful home. However, when his oldest daughter, Paige, ran away, his life began to unravel.

He finally locates her – fragile and struggling with drug use – in a park, giving him the opportunity to bring her home. However, she’s with someone else, and a disagreement quickly turns dangerous and shockingly violent.

The museum is locked down and a security guard is dead, with only 90 minutes before a bomb explodes. Jean and her team are in a desperate race against time to decipher a code and disarm the device. This is Jean’s most dangerous mission yet – will she succeed in stopping the explosion?

As a huge fan, I’m really excited about all the new faces popping up in the final season – Dr. Kay, played by Linda Hamilton, and Jake Connelly as Derek Turnbow have already made an impression! And Nell Fisher is absolutely captivating as Holly Wheeler. But honestly, what’s going to happen in those last four episodes? We’re all on the edge of our seats waiting to find out!

16. Dear Father Christmas

This heartwarming film centers on Chris, a 16-year-old boy who stubbornly holds onto his belief in Santa Claus.

21. Here We Go – Our New Year’s Fireworks Fantasaganza

I’m so excited to see Jim Howick, who I loved in Ghosts, and Katherine Parkinson, brilliant as Jen in The IT Crowd, back for this special! Plus, so many other familiar faces are returning – Alison Steadman from Gavin & Stacey, Freya Parks, Jude Morgan-Collie, and Tori Allen-Martin will all be there too. It’s going to be great to see them all reprise their roles!

As New Year’s Eve nears, Rachel is determined to host a huge party. Paul, however, would rather spend a peaceful holiday in a cozy cottage with a sauna, hoping to get rid of a large boil that’s developed on his cheek. They clearly have very different ideas about how to celebrate the new year.

The Jessop family’s vacation gets off to a predictably wild start: a road trip is underway, little Leo’s favorite pacifier is lost, and Paul has brought home a suspicious (and illegal!) stash of fireworks he won at a police auction.

Okay, so this episode takes us to Alicante! The story centers around Donna, a woman who says she’s dealing with a really serious illness, and her friend Bernie. They’re on this cruise, and Donna quickly connects with a passenger named Gary. She’s hoping for a bit of a Christmas miracle, so she decides to visit this secluded monastery. That’s where she meets Rodriguez, a pretty secretive priest, and Thomasina, a really intriguing nun. But things quickly go south – Bernie ends up dead, and the festive atmosphere turns pretty dark. It’s shaping up to be a twisty one!

As investigators focus on Gary, Rodriguez, and Thomasina, the search for answers reveals a complex network of lies and increasingly desperate actions. The eventual truth about what happened completely changes the crew’s understanding of the tragic events.
