The first trailer for ’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple‘ is here, giving fans a much-awaited glimpse of the film and something to anticipate in the coming year.
The trailer was released today, December 3rd, and offers a first look at both the impressive cast – including some familiar faces from 28 Years Later – and the suspenseful plot of the upcoming film.
Okay, so the trailer immediately throws you right into the thick of things. You see Ralph Fiennes as Dr. Kelson, and let me tell you, he looks rough – covered in dried blood, wearing this stained vest. It’s a striking image! The scene is set in his creepy tower of bones, and while he’s carefully examining one of the infected, we hear his voice explaining his ideas about what’s causing the whole outbreak. It instantly sets a really unsettling mood.
The trailer features unsettling music and then shows Jimmy Crystal, a disturbing cult leader portrayed by Jack O’Connell, along with his followers and their prisoner, Spike (Alfie Williams). This cult finds another group of survivors hiding in a cottage that looks similar to the one at the end of the movie 28 Days Later.
The trailer then quickly shows disturbing scenes of the cult torturing people, accompanied by the phrase “fear is the new faith.” It ends with Dr. Kelson and Jimmy Crystal appearing to team up, and one character noting they’re both in a difficult situation.

Directed by Nia DaCosta (known for The Marvels), 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is a new film continuing the story from the 2002 hit, 28 Days Later. It builds on the world originally created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland and will be released in theaters on January 14th.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, director DaCosta explained her vision for making The Bone Temple distinct from the previous films in the series.
She explained that the two pieces were linked by their shared qualities of being eccentric, unique, and deeply personal artistic expressions.
When I first spoke with the producers, including Danny and Alex, I made it clear that I wanted to bring my own vision to the project. I didn’t want to simply try and recreate a Danny Boyle film – that would be impossible, as he’s such a unique director, and frankly, it wasn’t something I was interested in doing.
It’s really difficult to put the movie’s mood into words, so I won’t even try. But it definitely has the same quirky, unpredictable, and energetic feel as before.
Cillian Murphy is confirmed to return as Jim in a brief scene after the credits of the new film, but he isn’t featured in the trailer. So, viewers will need to pay close attention when watching to catch his appearance.
