Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Box Office Projected to Continue Blumhouse’s 2025 Turnaround

As a huge horror fan, I’ve always been able to count on Blumhouse for consistently delivering fun, scary movies that do well in theaters. They really established themselves as a top name in the genre. But 2025 was a bit of a bumpy ride for them. They started the year with Wolf Man, which only made about $34.1 million worldwide, and then M3GAN 2.0 unfortunately didn’t perform well over the summer, earning just $39 million. Thankfully, things turned around recently with Black Phone 2, which had a great opening weekend, bringing in $27.3 million domestically and eventually earning $131.6 million worldwide. Now, it looks like Blumhouse is ending the year on a high note with the release of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and I’m excited to see if it continues their winning streak!

Variety reports that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is expected to bring in $35 to $40 million in North America during its first weekend. Although this is lower than the original film’s $80 million debut in 2023, it would still be Blumhouse’s biggest opening of 2025. Considering the movie cost $36 million to make, it could earn back its production costs in just three days.

Will Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Exceed Box Office Projections?

One trend at the movies this year was films consistently performing better than expected. While movies of all types surprised audiences, this was especially true for horror. Titles like Sinners, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Weapons, and the hugely successful The Conjuring: Last Rites all did exceptionally well. This makes us wonder if Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 could be the next big horror hit, considering the first film was a much larger success than predicted – suggesting this franchise has a knack for exceeding expectations.

The main difference between the two Five Nights at Freddy’s movies lies in how much competition they faced. The first film benefited from being released during the SAG-AFTRA strike, giving it weeks as the most prominent movie in theaters. It easily surpassed other films playing at the time, like Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and Killers of the Flower Moon, and didn’t have any major competition until The Marvels came out in November. However, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is entering a more crowded market with several other big films already playing.

Wow, what a Thanksgiving weekend for Disney’s Zootopia 2! It absolutely crushed the box office, bringing in a massive $158.8 million over the five days. And it looks like it’s going to do it again this weekend, potentially earning another $50 million domestically. Meanwhile, Wicked: For Good is still performing well, having already made $271.9 million here in the U.S. despite not quite matching the staying power of the first film. Right now, the buzz is that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is going to beat Wicked this weekend, but things can change quickly. It’s going to be a tougher fight for Freddy’s to really shine, though, with Wicked still drawing a big crowd.

Despite competition, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 has a good chance of performing well because it directly appeals to horror fans, a group that hasn’t had many new releases lately. While Blumhouse had some misses earlier this year, horror movies generally do well in theaters. Releasing the film closer to Halloween might have been ideal, but The Conjuring: Last Rites proved horror can attract audiences year-round. It’s unlikely to beat Zootopia 2, but Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 could potentially earn over $40 million, especially if people enjoy it and recommend it to others.

Even if Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 doesn’t meet high expectations, Blumhouse will be happy with its recent improvement in performance over the weekend. After the disappointing results of Wolf Man and M3GAN 2.0, Jason Blum had to reassess what was going wrong, but the success of Black Phone 2 and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 proves that Blumhouse horror films are still popular with audiences. This is a positive sign for the studio’s future projects planned for 2026.
