Martha Stewart Reveals Surprising Name Her 2 Grandkids Call Her

Martha Stewart doesn’t knead a fancy title.

Honestly, it’s so endearing! Even her grandkids, Jude Stewart, who’s 14, and Truman Stewart, 13, just call her by her first name! It just shows how close they all are, and how much they adore her. It melts my heart every time I think about it!

Martha Stewart explained on a recent podcast that she’s been called Martha since her children were born, and that’s how all of their friends refer to her. She doesn’t go by ‘Mrs. Stewart’ at all – she prefers just Martha.

This is because Martha Stewart’s daughter, Alexis Stewart, had twins, Jude and Truman, through a surrogate mother.

“My daughter calls me Martha,” Martha explained. “She’s always called me Martha.”

The well-known homemaker describes her relationship with her daughter, Alexis (whom she shares with her former husband, Andrew Stewart), as being more like a friendship than a traditional mother-daughter bond.

Martha said being a grandmother suited her better, explaining that she and Alexis had a complicated history which shaped their relationship, even currently.

She added of her daughter, “We’ve very different. I’m an extrovert, she’s not.”

But there’s one unique aspect that the Stewarts take after each other: profanity.

Martha jokingly described her daughter as having a terrible potty mouth. She also mentioned her 13-year-old grandson picks up the habit, too, telling host Shawn Killinger, ‘He swears!’

In a funny twist, Martha Stewart revealed she also has a go-to swear word.

“‘F–k,'” Martha quipped. “It’s such a good one.”

Martha and her daughter, Alexis, have a rather unique relationship. In her 2011 book, Whateverland: Learning to Live Here, Alexis described how her mother took a very independent approach to parenting and wasn’t focused on being a typical, child-centered parent.

She wrote, “Martha is just better at everything – you can’t compete.” Growing up, she felt immense pressure to be perfect. Any mistake meant starting over, and she described it as feeling like she was constantly under intense scrutiny – like having a ‘glue gun pointed at my head.’

Despite their differences, Alexis developed a close bond with Martha. As she explained to Today while promoting her book, they’ve become very close, even though they’re both strong-willed and aren’t afraid to have lively debates – or even arguments – with each other.

Alexis added, “If we agree on everything, how boring would that be?”

When Martha Stewart, then known as Martha Kostyra, was 19 years old, she had her first sexual experience with her future husband, Andrew Stewart, who was a law student at Yale.

In the 2024 Netflix documentary Martha, the businesswoman described someone as “very aggressive,” adding that she found it appealing.

Martha didn’t see her kiss with another man during her and Andrew’s European honeymoon right after their 1961 wedding as a major problem, though it didn’t bode well for their future.

She described the kiss with the stranger – which happened at a Florence cathedral on Easter evening – as a spontaneous and passionate moment, not something wrong or disloyal. ‘It just happened,’ she said, ‘and it was thrilling. I think everyone deserves to have an experience like that sometime.’

In a documentary, Martha revealed she had a short relationship with an attractive Irish man while she was a stockbroker in the late 1960s.

She insisted she would never have interfered with someone else’s marriage. She described what happened as insignificant, comparing it to a fleeting, innocent kiss – like the one in the cathedral.

She accused Andrew of cheating multiple times, even though he insisted he had been faithful until she admitted to being the one who had an affair.

I wasn’t the one having affairs. He was the one running around with other people,” she explained. “I’ve always said I’m a swan, and swans are known for being loyal to one partner.”

When Martha Stewart’s daughter, Alexis, was born in 1965, Martha had to develop and strengthen her natural mothering abilities.

She recalled in her memoir, Martha, that having children young was common at the time. It was simply what people did. She once believed motherhood came naturally, but now realizes that isn’t necessarily true.

Martha shared with People magazine in 2020 that despite remaining close to Alexis, their relationship has always been challenging. She explained that she made an effort to include Alexis in everything, but Alexis left for boarding school as soon as she was able. Despite the difficulties, Martha emphasized a deep mutual love and willingness to help each other.

Oh my gosh, I still can’t believe it! Martha, the Martha Stewart, actually went to prison! Back in 2004, she was found guilty of some really serious stuff – basically, getting involved in illegal stock trading and then trying to cover it up. She ended up spending five months at that federal prison in Alderson, West Virginia. Five months! It was so scandalous, and I followed the whole thing obsessively. It just proves nobody is above the law, even a lifestyle guru like her!

She once got in trouble for admiring a guard’s keychain and then touching it, briefly forgetting the strict rules of the prison, as she recounted in her memoir, Martha.

Martha explained that the woman was put in solitary confinement for simply touching a guard. She said they didn’t give her any food or water for an entire day, adding sarcastically, ‘This was supposedly ‘Camp Cupcake.’

After getting out of prison in March 2005, Martha felt like she needed to rebuild her life, and returning to daytime television seemed like a good way to start.

Although Martha Stewart has been a public figure for many years, both on and off screen – including hosting her show Martha for seven seasons – she’s said that the experience felt more restrictive than her time in prison at Alderson.

Okay, so Martha just told us on her podcast – and I was listening, obviously! – that she’s NEVER had a facelift. Can you believe it? But here’s the thing… she did admit Dr. Belkin – he’s her dermatologist, and seriously, he’s amazing – gives her Botox in her neck and jawline to keep everything lifted. And filler! She gets filler in her cheeks and jawline too! It’s not a facelift, she keeps saying, but honestly, the work he does is incredible and keeps her looking flawless. I need to find this Dr. Belkin!

Belkin also mentioned they’d performed skin tightening using ultrasound, and she remembered getting a Fraxel laser treatment on her body.

Martha told the doctor she was really pleased with how her upper chest and neckline looked. She credited the doctor’s work, along with doing Pilates, for the improvement. She also explained that she felt radiant because she eats a healthy diet – making her green juice daily with fresh ingredients from her own garden – and stays active.

Martha Stewart said she enjoys being around Snoop Dogg when he smokes marijuana, even though she doesn’t participate herself. She shared this during the first episode of her podcast in 2022 when Snoop Dogg was a guest.

She admitted it made her feel good and didn’t interfere with her focus at all. Actually, she believed it improved her concentration and didn’t make her tired, unlike what many people say about marijuana. She thought it was fantastic.

Martha enjoys a well-made cocktail, but one particular spirit has always bothered her, ever since her days as a student at Barnard College.

She shared with Snoop at the 2024 Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival that she drank so much gin in college she’s never touched it since.

She told her friend, who was finally launching his own alcoholic beverage after decades of planning, “I’m so excited to try your Gin & Juice!”

Incidentally, though Martha is practically synonymous with white wine, she is not a day drinker.

Oh my gosh, she’s SO strict about this! She told The Cut a while back that she never touches it before dinner. Seriously, never! She said she’d be totally useless if she tried to have any earlier in the day, like at lunchtime. It’s amazing how dedicated she is – I wish I had that kind of willpower! It’s just…everything about her is perfect, even her timing with it.

Martha prefers to wear her swimsuit instead of underwear, so she’s always ready for a quick swim.

The 2023 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model recently told Page Six that she prefers wearing bathing suits as her everyday underwear. She explained she avoids restrictive or lacy underwear, and only wears suits by the brand Eres under her clothing.

During a 2013 appearance on Watch What Happens Live!, Martha Stewart admitted to having a one-night stand when asked by Andy Cohen. She also revealed she’d sent flirty texts and playfully hinted at potentially having participated in a threesome.
