Game of Thrones’ new spin-off series gets final epic trailer with Targaryen chaos – as its second season gets major update

Sky has released the last trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms before the show starts airing.

As a huge fan of the Game of Thrones world, I’m so excited for the new prequel! It’s a six-part series based on George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg stories, and it’s coming to Sky and NOW on January 19th, 2026. The best part? New episodes will drop weekly, so we can really savor the story as it unfolds.

This new story is set 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones and 72 years after House of the Dragon. It focuses on the lives of common people in Westeros, following the adventures of Dunk and his clever assistant, Egg—who is secretly the young Prince Aegon V Targaryen—as they travel across the Seven Kingdoms.

The video depicts a humble knight traveling to the town of Ashford Meadow in the Reach, a region of Westeros. He hopes to win prize money by competing in a jousting tournament, but is met with ridicule. The overall feel of this content seems more lighthearted than the show Game of Thrones.

The trailer offers a first glimpse of how the series portrays the Targaryen family, and it shows them in a much more flawed and realistic light than we’ve seen before.

I was thinking, if I proved myself in these tournaments, maybe a powerful house would take me on as a knight – I was even dreaming of the Targaryens, honestly. But Raymun quickly brought me back to earth, saying they’re basically… well, he called them incestuous and said they ruled as tyrants. Harsh, but he definitely painted a different picture than the songs tell!

Hey, so I’m trying to watch this YouTube video, but it seems like there’s a little snag. Apparently, because I’m logged into Contentpass, it’s blocking me from seeing it. If I sign out of Contentpass first, I should be able to watch it no problem!

With the second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms about to begin filming, the trailer has now been released.

I was thrilled to hear from showrunner Ira Parker at HBO Max’s event in London yesterday that season two is finally starting to film! Apparently, they’re heading to Belfast, Ireland next week to get things rolling, which is fantastic news for fans like me.

The second season is expected to premiere in 2027.

Parker has shared that the upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off will be quite different from previous shows in the franchise.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Parker explained that the upcoming series will not have the elaborate opening credits seen in both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

Parker explained that all creative choices were made with the main character, Dunk, in mind. He wanted the show, including the opening sequence, to truly reflect Dunk’s personality and perspective.

He explained that the opening credits of both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are grand, impressive, and feature a sweeping orchestral score by Ramin Djawadi. However, he doesn’t think that style would suit the character of Dunk, who is more straightforward, humble, and unpretentious. Dunk isn’t someone who would be flashy or over-the-top.

The new show, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, premieres on HBO January 18th. You can stream the first two seasons of House of the Dragon on Sky and NOW. If you’re interested, you can find details on how to subscribe to Sky TV.
