Exciting update for fans of Virgin River! The beloved cozy romantic drama has been granted another season, making it a total of eight seasons, by Netflix only a few days after the completion of filming for its upcoming seventh season.
As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the renewal of Netflix’s Virgin River has broken yet another record! Now, it stands as their longest-running live-action scripted series, outlasting both Grace and Frankie and Orange Is The New Black. What an incredible achievement for this captivating show!
In December of 2024, viewers found themselves back in Virgin River, where the series concluded with a suspenseful cliffhanger regarding Charmaine and her newborn twins.
In a heartfelt statement, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith expressed sincere gratitude on behalf of himself and the entire Virgin River team, thanking Netflix and the devoted fans for their support that made it possible for them to continue exploring the lives of these cherished characters together.
Season 8, comprising ten episodes, is still some time away from airing. First, we need to see the release of season 7.

In Season 6, the residents of Virgin River faced more challenges and hardships, as Mel and Jack chose to get married, while the romantic entanglement among Brie, Mike, and Brady persisted.
The upcoming seventh season will delve into the blissful early days of Mel and Jack’s life on the farm, a period filled with challenges, hinted at subtly by Smith.
In Season 7, Mel and Jack embark on their initial journey towards matrimony, commencing their plans to construct a shared future and family.
In the upcoming season 7, as Smith mentioned, Doc and Hope are set to collaborate to safeguard the clinic and the town’s honor from external threats, with the addition of two new characters joining the cast.
Sarah Canning, known from “The Vampire Diaries,” has been added to the cast. She portrays Victoria, a previous police officer who was wounded on duty and now functions within the state medical board. Her role involves investigating the medical practice of a certain character named Doc.
Cody Kearsley completes the new cast members in Riverdale. His character, Clay, is on a quest to find his long-lost younger sister, whom he last saw when he was a teen, following his placement in foster care.
“There’s a lot more to go here with these characters,” Smith teased.
